Hello. I played online poker for 3-4 years during university etc. I was playing up to 50 nl and mtt up to 10 EUR. I am Italian so I have only played on Italian website (more fish but higher rake). I played for the last time in 2014. I am moving to London and I want to play more live poker, both for fun and to try to make a decent profit (my main job is not great).

I have previously played live poker but only low stakes and for fun. When i was playing online, I was watching videos etc but I forgot a lot. I would like some suggests on how to approach this:

1)What are the best resources available to study live poker? I need both to refresh general poker concepts and to learn more about live tells etc. I would prefer books over videos if there is anything decent. Also, I would like some suggests if there is some software that I can use to simulate equities and do exercises (like pokerstove, etc.)

2)What is a good limit to start to play and what is considered to be beatable rake wise? I have money to start high but I would prefer to start low to learn concepts and make practice etc. At the same time, I read that it can be very difficult to beat live microstakes because the rake is super high (in proportion).

3)What are the general times for best game selection? I think weekends and late at nights but I would like to confirm this.

4)What do you think it is better to start with between cash and mtt? I feel I prefer MTT, at least online. Also, for MTT, what is considered a "beatable" rake and what should I check in the structure to see if it is a good tournament or not?

5)Any other tip/suggest?

Thank you a lot for your help,
Max

live players will limp/open limp strong hands such as aks, ako, aqo, etc. this is normal for them.

Cash is probably better than MTTs for income purposes but if you just want to enjoy yourself and hopefully make some money, stick with what you like. If you do go cash, start at the lowest stakes offered.

Just Hands podcast is awesome. Bart Hanson’s podcast is solid but a bit dated. The grinder’s manual is for online but it’s probably good for live. The course by Ed Miller looked ok, I just skimmed it, I don’t own it.

Making a living starting out playing live cash in London is probably going to be tough. High cost of living and I don’t think the games are that soft from what I’ve heard. I also visited for a few days and the games were tough compared to the U.S. at least. I mean the lineups weren’t full of crushers or anything, but people’s preflop ranges were much tighter.

Nights and weekends are usually best.

My best advice is to bet a lot heads up until you get raised and then fold if you just have one pair. Multi-way play more passively.

10% rake.

deeper stacked the better. look for tournaments with 200BB starting stacks +. 20 min blind levels+.

they limp in with kk's and even call a raise pre from the sb with kk. even fold show kk 30bb deep against a raise pre. 3 different regs i've seen done this.

You can't label them "regs" if they do this. I suppose you could use the term extremely loosely if you just mean they play a lot of tourneys. These are just likely tight-passive fish.
