I think this is enough of a beginner question to put here. If not I apologise.

So like a complete fish who isn't aware of changes to the site even though I hadn't played in years I played some spin & gos for the sunday millions and won an $11 ticket. Then stopped as I learnt that you can't just unregister and get T$ like you used to be able (I think you can on future entries just not the first but don't quote me).

So I finally got round to using that ticket and played a hyper and sun ran my way to first place and entry to the sunday millions.

So I would basically like to know just how weak this tournament is and whether I as an ok microstakes player who understand the game a bit and has a basic understanding of ICM and it's affects should just play it given I mostly play poker for fun and if I wanted a $200 boost to my roll I could just deposit that much.

Should I just sell some action and use that money to buy some poker training/books and treat it as a bit of a freeroll (as I wouldn't usually buy them)?

Not sure what to do.

The SM isn't a particularly difficult tournament, in part because plenty of recs satellite in. Do you have the option of unregging for T$? If you don't have the option, then obv you have to play it. If you can, I think selling action (even at 0 mu) could be a good call if you can, as that way you can turn your ticket into a profit regardless of result.

I will say, if it's a ticket you have to use there isn't a softer $215 around.

If you have the option to unreg for t$, then I think it's a matter of your goals as a poker player. For a lot of recreational players (and me when I was less serious) taking a big shot with big score potential is a fresh and exciting experience you won't have too often. So in that sense, it could be worth playing (though I still might try to sell somewhere between like 30-70%, depending). If the thing you care about most is building your roll and sticking to your main grind, though, then the play would just be to sell as much as you can or unreg and take the T$.

You don't have to use the sold action as a freeroll to buy poker content, but you could. I'm not sure about your exact level, but there are a number of good (new) books out and multiple training sites putting out top-quality content. I've seen you in the hu/spin forum before, though, and there's not much content in that vein available tbh.

Yeah I don't play HU hypers and occasionally piss about in spins when bored but never above 3s. If I was going to look at getting better at something it'd be cash games. I win at 5nlz I probably win at 10nlz but not got the sample and I probably lose at 25nlz. 16nlz I've no idea it's odd and I've only ever played in the pool when it's been fishy.

If I had the option to unreg I would take the T$ but unfortunately not an option. Shame this isn't really a thing anymore I used to enjoy getting T$ and playing around in hypers and the like.

I suppose I'll probably just play it because a couple of hundred dollars makes literally no difference to my life whereas if I get a decent cash it lets me buy a nicer car/gets me closer to owning a house.

Thanks for the reply.

I might be totally off base here, but didn’t they end that option at least 5 years ago?

You could wait until one of those special SM comes up, like the anniversary edition where they have those huge guaranteed price pools that attract lots of fun players and gamblers. That’s probably the weakest $215 tournament you can find anywhere and also makes for a huge payday if it’s your lucky day. Couple years ago a friend of mine was chipleader when they chopped 5 or 6 way in a anniversary SM. Every time somebody posts about things equaling out in the “long run”, I mention his $800k score that immediately left the poker eco system.

I didn't really play any poker from like 2015-18 I don't think so it could have been a long while ago. 2013 you could definitely still do it.

I don't even get the option to pick the sunday millions i play. It's the one this sunday it won't let me unreg.

Yeah if I luckbox my way into a decent score it's going straight out of my roll and into my savings lol. Thinking about it probably a min cash will do the same.
