Are SNG's a good way to transition into MTTs? Are SNG's a good way to transition into MTTs?

Whatup, it's been awhile since I've posted here

I've been thinking of becoming an MTT player as someone who's used to cash games and was wondering if learning SNG's is a good place to start

I figured you can probably get used to the concept of different blind stages as well as trying to survive with one buy-in easier with Sit & Go's than with MTT's since you can play numerous SNG's in the time it takes you to finish one MTT (assuming you make a deep run anyways)

Is this good logic or nah?

I suppose it will help you learn the concepts of ICM, but the important points where ICM applies and the strategies that change as a result are markedly different. If you're any good at cash then you should be able to adapt to a shorter stack game better than the other way around, it's more a case of working out what ranges we need to push/repush/call push with what stacks and how ICM affects it

Makes sense, thanks for this

Just wondering, how are the concepts of ICM different in a SNG as opposed to MTT?

In an STT there's one large bubble that has applications more or less from minute one due to the small field and payout structure, an MTT also has a money bubble but early on the ICM effects are minimal enough to be ignored as we're so far away from it in terms of players, and then there's additional points (e.g. FT bubble, big pay jump for top 3 at FT usually) where ICM can influence decisions

MTTSNG's maybe. The 45 mans are good value for MTT practice imo.

LOL

Yeah, I'm kinda shocked myself that someone needed to state the obvious. But there you go. You can't take anything for granted around here.
