I wanna play live tournaments for 1 year. I need 100 buyins and life expenses paid for 1 year. I need $50,000. at the moment it would take me 10 years to save up that amount of money if every thing goes perfectly (car is likely needing repairs or even replaced for example).

100 buyins is pretty aggressive even lol.

If i played 30 live $1000-1500 mtts with 100-200 players over a period of 10 years what are the odds of binking one? if i win one i will have my $50,000.

I'm not playing online poker and live tournaments are a waste of time in my area since playing a $100 to win at the most $600 seems like a waste of time. im better off saving $1500 and playing a 200 player live tourney rather than playing a two table $100 one.

What’s wrong with chipping away at the smaller field $100 BIs? Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Why do you need 100 buyins for a year if in your previous topic you say you're going to play one donkament a month?

It may be boring, but if you had the skills to consistently win the $600 on a $100 entry, then that would seem to be the quickest way to get the money you seek. While $500 for a day isn't a huge sum, it is likely more than you are making in the current day job...

I am confused about why it would take ten years to save $50K though...that sounds like there are some serious life leaks that could be plugged. I mean, seriously...that is not even a hundred per week.

This doesn't make any sense.
Why don't you just wait until you're seventy, just to be on the safe side.

Make sure you study 120 hours a month in the meanwhile so you're going to be extra good.

On average you should win every 100th to 200th one if there are 100-200 players.

Not sure if winning $50k after spending $40k on buy-ins qualifies as “have my 50k” though.

Besides that, using a planning period of 10 years for poker is pretty ridiculous.

If a particular person enters 30 tournaments with 100 entrants where all of the entrants are equally skilled, such particular person has approximately a 26% chance of finishing in first place in at least one of such tournaments.

If a particular person enters 30 tournaments with 200 entrants where all of the entrants are equally skilled, such particular person has approximately a 14% chance of finishing in first place in at least one of such tournaments.

The calculation is much more complicated if the entrants are of varying skill levels.

If you chase around the MSPT 'mini' tour in the midwest .. entries are $1100 and you can enter twice a day. There are at least two Day 1s and some have three. SSSOOooo, you could blow through $6600 in three days in Battle Creek, Michigan chasing the $225K first place prize that we will have this May. Most sites have at least $100K for first.

Interesting note of comparison ...

I know of a young player who has 19 cashes (4 final tables) on the MSPT tour and has lifetime winnings of about $126K .... All in a little over 3 years.

I know another young player who binked a $300 BI for $30K and then less than a year later binked a HPT ($1650) event for $174K ...

I could drag this out, but who do you think has spent the most on buy-ins? The comparison could be 'stunning' to some ... 19 cashes v 2 cashes ... who is showing a profit?

So if our OP is blowing through 4-6 entries at each stop then he could go to about 15-20 events in a year (which is much more realistic) and then see what's left.

You can see that the 'Allen Kessler' way of life is way different than the DNegs approach, if that's even a good example. This is an area where I think we need to appreciate PHellmuth a bit more. He plays tournaments like AK (cash, cash, cash), but has also has a bunch of wins as well. Changing gears is ultra important in tournament play! GL

Previously you wanted to play one tournament a month and before that you wanted to become a winner at 2NL.

Goals are great and everything but you should probably stop coming up with ludicrous plans like saving up $50k as a 100 buyin bankroll and life roll and just play some poker. Right now you're like a kid who wants to be a pro baseball player who's worrying about what kind of equipment you'll need in the big leagues before you actually hit a ball.
