Run it twice question

Say you’ve got it all in on the turn with 6-1 pot odds with an open ended straight (8 outs) draw that will win the hand against the opponents pair. Is it true to say it is in my best interests to have this run out as many times as possible or is it more complicated than that?

All running it more than once does is decrease variance, it doesn't do anything to EV. If you want to be that guy that slows the game down because you can't handle the variance then go right ahead

In general, the farther ahead you are, the less running it twice will have a negative short term impact.

The farther behind you are, the more you want to run it once.

You have KK and get it in for a very large number of BBs and are called on a AKx rainbow flop.

Opponent flips over AA.

Why give back half your profit when you hit your 1-outer?

If you have AA, what do you care once or twice. Opponent has one out.

FWIW - were I to play where run it twice were an option, I'd probably always run it once anyway.

Why would I not want two shots to hit a miracle and get that miracle twice as often for half the return?

Of course there are extremes, but on 'typical' draws I think running it once is enough when behind otherwise don't make the call in the first place. The thinking is that you probably aren't going to win it twice so 'go for it'.

Where as if you are ahead, you might win it twice, but it sure would suck to lose the first one.

I typically only like to run it once, but I usually give the opponent the option as I don't like to decide. There are times when I insist on 'once', like when I'm stuck and ready to double or go home and when the pot is too small to dicker about.

There is a group of PLO regs that love to pot, pot, pot the newbies and then run it twice when they fold out. This casino wont let you RIT if there is a side pot, so if I see this happening I love to get in the middle of it and suck out for the whole pot!! GL
