Of course there are extremes, but on 'typical' draws I think running it once is enough when behind otherwise don't make the call in the first place. The thinking is that you probably aren't going to win it twice so 'go for it'.
Where as if you are ahead, you might win it twice, but it sure would suck to lose the first one.
I typically only like to run it once, but I usually give the opponent the option as I don't like to decide. There are times when I insist on 'once', like when I'm stuck and ready to double or go home and when the pot is too small to dicker about.
There is a group of PLO regs that love to pot, pot, pot the newbies and then run it twice when they fold out. This casino wont let you RIT if there is a side pot, so if I see this happening I love to get in the middle of it and suck out for the whole pot!! GL
