Was this the right hand to call a bluff? Was this the right hand to call a bluff?

Playing 4NL, Villain in the SB seems to have a good hand every single hand based on the way he was betting (had to have had a lot of bluffs in his range) and has shown some very questionable hands at showdown.

Hero in the CO with A7s opens the pot with a bet of $0.12. SB and BB both call.

Flop ($0.36): 7d Qc 3dd

Checks around to hero. Hero bets $0.18. Villain in SB calls, BB folds

Turn ($0.72): Qc

Villain checks, hero checks.

River ($0.72): Tc

Villain bets $0.72. Hero calls.
Villain shows 6 high. Hero takes down the pot with a pair of 7s.

Although I felt good about calling his bluff here, I'm not sure it was the right play. I was reluctant to call because I thought he could have been trying to trap me with a set of queens because of his large bet on the river. Also, if he had hit a pair of tens on the river, I would have been beaten, however, because of his large bet size I assumed he was bluffing the set of queens rather than just a pair. Should I have waited to call his bluff when I had a top pair? Or was this a fine play?

The villain can definitely have some Qx here, but the second queen on board cuts those combos down somewhat. (I assume there's a typo in the hand history and there aren't actually two queens of clubs on board.) Diamonds missed, gutshots missed, and the villain has shown a propensity for bluffing. Seems fine to call here.

The crux of it is that you were aware of how you're opponent was playing, and made a read based on the situation and their tendencies. I think your thought process was really good throughout, and although he can have Qx here, I don't think he bets this big with Tx, so I'd rule that out - lots of draws miss also; I think calling here is absolutely fine.

Well played.

I would'nt have played this hand any deffierent. Checking back the turn helps you controll the pot size and prevents him from check-raising you with bluffs or draws. He has too many bluff on the river so IMO. you have to call.

Nice hand

bet flop, check turn, call pot size bet on the river. You played it perfectly, and should make money in the long run. Of course, there will be days when villain has it every time as well.
