Hello new here
In Texas hold'em, if the betting player is asked and after the betting player put in chips as part of the bet...is the betting player required to tell the asking player how much the bet was? How about the dealer.

Thanks

The dealer must announce the amount of a made bet IF asked.
No One is required to state stack sizes NOT bet But the player must give you a clear view of this stack.
You will also hear guys viewing stacks ASK if there are any Large denominating chips behind.

Thanks. I was pretty sure that that was the case. I ask because in a home game that touts to follow the rules the dealer and player (same person) basically put a bunch of chips in the middle when I asked what the bet is he refused to tell me (said this much ... Just count them). . However, he is a stickler for enforcing a bunch of other rules ... Is this in writing anywhere (that if asked the dealer must announce the size of the bet?), Or just common practice? The 2018 WSOP rules aren't that specific on the subject.

I have no comment on what an actual rule is - but if I had a home game and someone did this I'd tell him to announce the size of his bet or he wouldn't be invited back.

I have played in MANY Casinos and the dealer announces the size of the bet made when asked at ALL Times in ALL Casinos.
Your "friend" sounds like he either has no idea of what he is talking about or is a jerk off.

If a dealer tried to do that here they'd be politely asked to shut the **** up within half a hand

All of the above is surely true, but I think it's more that the guy thinks his 'rights' as a player supercede his obligations as a dealer, when in fact they don't- and he's probably the guy who runs/hosts the game so no one has the stones to tell him that this is unfair.

Wow you saw right through it, I intentionally provided limited info to not bias the discussion.

The rest of the story is that when he refused to tell me, I got up and left the game.

When I spoke to the individual the next day, he very much refused to conceed any points and demanded I apologize for being an obnoxious player. He also said that by not telling me the size of the bet that it made zero difference (he isn't wrong) however I was goateed twice to "stack your chips next to his stack to count," which very much felt like an attempt to get information from me.

Obnoxious behavior apparently included shuffling my chips while game play is underway (no ..really). I did admit that I place my bets sometimes slopily, and told the dude I will work on that. He essentially said "I chose to punish you as the dealer...because you are obnoxious" ... Mind you his money was part of the play at that point. Again this is a small home game with price money in the three digits. However I was sitting at the final table with 4 starting tables

One, make sure you are aware of your own actions at the table and be aware if are being obnoxious.

two, don't play with this guy passive aggressive, rule bending jackass again.
