Pretty much all you can do is know you're doing it and just stop, or at the very least work on stopping. Keep a hand range you're comfortable with on your screen, and just play those, no matter if you get bored or you get a "gut feeling."

If you are alone in the room, commentate on what you are doing and give yourself compliments when you fold or raise a trouble hand you were tempted to call with. This also helps with concentrating on each decision if you always say why you are doing what you are doing.

When you are continuously making choices that you know to be wrong, you need to examine your frame of mind when making the decision. What was driving you? Was it anger (you just got sucked out on, and now you want to catch a hand and punish the guy who got you), boredom (you have been card dead and you want some action), a sense of entitlement (you know you are better than everyone here, so just play a lot of hands and you can outplay these guys), or any of a dozen other mind sets that skew your judgement. Learn to recognize these bad mindsets, and learn how to default back to a very basic, very tight playing style when you recognize that you are playing spewy.

Take some comfort that you actually realize that you have these leaks. Many folks don't get that far. It is far easier to work on a problem if you actually know you have a problem. Seriously consider advice here (like Spews) and others and read some articles or books on poker mindset. Eventually it should make a difference since you obviously realize you need help. Good luck!

One of the challenges some people have is delaying gratification. Were you one who patiently waited to save up or until a major holiday to get something you wanted badly, or did you pester your parents to buy it for you right away? If they refused, did you keep after them until they relented?

Winning poker is about delayed gratification. The snare of poker is that while winning feels good, it doesn't have the immediate "high" of being the middle of gambling. Many people will trade the feeling for winning later for gambling now. When you can't stop yourself from doing stuff you know is wrong, you're caught up in the gambling high.

The first step is to recognize it. Like other addictions, it isn't going to turn off by writing notes to yourself or say "I know better." You have to stop feeding it. My suggestion would be that you immediately take a break the rest of the day the first time you catch yourself doing the worst leak (calling a marginal hand pf?). Sure, that's going to be tough. However, the pain of not playing for the rest of the day should stop you from making these mistakes.

As for not being able to make another thread, we have a lot of spammers attacking the website. You don't see them because the moderators are deleting them. However, there are restrictions put in place for how many threads you can start as a new poster. Be patient and you'll get permission very soon.

thanks venice10...it's true that there are to many fish and whale at the lowest limits that it's impossible to beat the game ??? or it's just me not playing those top hands from position and wait for them to make the same mistakes???

The opposite. The multitude of fish makes it easy to beat the micros.

1. Almost never bluff

2. Your target should be opponents who can't fold TPTK or an over pair for any bet OTR

3. Don't be "that guy" who is overly concerned that villain may be bluffing, or "that guy" who can't bear to fold TPTK.

It's not enough to know your leaks. You have to list the consequence(s) under each leak so that you have a visual of the consequences. Eventually you'll stop a leak IF you get tired of its consequence(s). GL

I meant the immediate disadvantages following the bad decision, but if the high level consequence of losing money works better for you, list that instead to visually remind you.

No, what he means is this. When you are deep in the tilt hole, you sometimes do not even know you are there. the problem with an altered mindset is sometimes it obscures your objectivity. If you intimately know your leaks, and know the exact mechanism they use to help you lose money, it is much easier to self correct.

You are in a session, and you keep getting called down light, losing to middle pair. This infuriates you and you think you are playing a bunch of idiots, which makes you play even more aggressive and you spew off three more buy-ins.

or

You are in a session, and you have noticed that the last three times you three barrelled you got called light. You know you have a tendency to get bored and widen your range and try to buy pots, and you know a symptom of that is players adjusting and calling you light with bluff catchers. Knowing this, you mentally review your session and realize that you have been impatient, and this has made you bluff much more frequently.

Know your leaks, and know what each one looks like when it is happeniong.

i have to learn to lay down AA, KK JJ after i'm making a big raise PF and get called by a fish with 76o and making 3/4 bet on the flop and he is calling me with on epair and hiting second pair on the turn and making me loosing a big pot...that happened last night and i think was that point when i started to get tilt and get involved in other hands which i wouldn't usually play...

Pre flop, AA is a monster

Post flop, it's just one pair

You're not tired enough of doing them. You might think you are, but you're not because you keep doing them. IF you eventually get tired enough of doing them, then you'll stop them. It's that simple.

This should go without saying, but if you forget them, put post-it notes on your monitor obviously.

How do you know they are bad? Did you study them away from the table ... or just think they were bad when/because you lost?

How are you ever to know that your opponent hit 2-pair on K746? We don't know the PF action or your stack sizes ... so how do you know it was a bad play not to lay down on the Turn here when you are still 20% to win?

If you start playing bad because you see other people playing bad, then that's a 'me' problem, not a poker problem. And you need to figure out what make you tick to avoid this behavior.

What do you want out of poker? Fun? Money? Gambling? Kill Time? You may have conflicting actions. If you truly want to learn the game to the point where you make a profit then you need to 'get over' the fun/gambling side of it and work on (and recognize) what you are doing well .. and then keep repeating it regardless of the short term win/loss results. Also, before you make a decision, do you go through a script in your head. Do you consider your opponents range, what he thinks your range is, what your game plan is? Have yo looked at the board texture and considered how your opponents action changed based on how the board texture changed?

A lot of bad habits come from playing without conscious considerations. Force yourself to go through a list of considerations before making significant decisions.

100% what the above poster said.

I have found that when i rush into pots without taking time to analyze every bit of information i have available to me, I begin making mistakes. Just take a breath, and use your available time.
