So here's another scenario that just happened to me. And I would love for you all to correct me and be as brutally honest as possible.

$1/3 NL Hold em. I had $140 effective. I was in SB position.

I was dealt QQ. Hijack bets $12. I reraise to $50. BB snap calls. UTG calls. Hijack calls. (Was this reraise too high, should I have just done $36? (3x12))

Flop comes 627 two hearts, one diamond.

I continuation bet $50. (I believe this is my first error, how would you all bet this here? What do you think?)

BB thinks forever and then calls. UTG Goes all in with $300 effective. Hijack folds. I have $40 left. I think about it and then call.

I call, BB thinks forever and folds.

UTG shows Trip 6 and takes the pot.

Please correct me on my logic as well. My logic here was calling $40 I had left to win $3** might be worth it even though I felt I was behind. Should I have folded if I felt I was down? My gut said he had a set. I felt if he had AA or KK preflop he would reraise me.

Also, my continuation bet was $50 just because I felt I was probably ahead and I could still get good value on the flop with the size of the pot. But, after losing I am thinking this was my biggest error. I basically committed myself to this pot. Should I have c bet less or not at all with QQ here?

I don't think the preflop raise is too big. Especially if people are limp-calling 50 dollar 3-bets out of position with a pair of sixes.

On the flop the pot is $200 and we have $90 left. Just go all-in instead of leaving such a small amount behind. We can get called by plenty of worse hands here.

Preflop maybe slightly high, if only because if you get a caller then you've got less than a pot sized bet left, you could easily make it $35-45.

As played, the pot is $200+, we have $90 left and we have an overpair. Trivial jam.

The biggest mistake is even the consideration of calling $40 into a pot that is bigger than the US national debt. The second biggest mistake is betting $50 into the US national defecit, I mean what were you going to do with $40 left?

Keep track of the pot-size. If you've got less than the size of the pot, you can't bet-fold.
You have to go all in on the flop, either with an open shove, or a check/call or check-jam (if someone else makes a bizarrely small bet).

Shove the flop.

The only reason to save money when you are betting with at most $90 into a $200+ pot is that you really need the bus fare.

Wait what, are we reading the same thread? Not shoving flop, and more importantly not realizing pot and stack sizes, is a huge mistake.

My mistake, you are right Kelvis. I read quickly before class and clearly misread lol. Thanks for the heads up!

Okay so, the takeaway is: pay better attention to my stack in comparison to the pot. And go all in when you are much lower than the pot on the flop. Got it!
