Are there any general rules for playing pocket pairs in 6max ring?
Currently playing NL16 on Pokerstars, moving up to NL25 soon.
I usually raise pre flop with 22+unopened from any position.
I will always cbet when I hit the flop.
I cbet about 70% when I miss, and usually give up when I'm raised or called and don't improve on the turn.
I think my biggest issue is when I get 3bet pre flop. I will almost always call but I find it difficult to play small and middle pairs on most boards that I don't hit.
Are there any basic pocket pair guidelines observed by regular winning players? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
There are things you might want to change when moving up like folding small pairs from UTG. Those also depend on other factors like postflop ability compared to your opposition.
And there are things that you will have to change because good players will destroy you if you don't. Among those are cbetting 70% after missing the flop and almost always calling 3bets OOP.
If you don't change that stuff, it won't take too many hands for regulars to realize your flop cbet % and turn cbet % don't match which will lead to them raising/floating you a lot.
Cbetting 70%+ when you miss cannot be good, you need to check back some meh top pairs so your opponent can't blast off on turns with any top pair or even 2nd pair.
Check them back when you miss and bluff on the river if it goes x/x/x to you and you can either get them off the bottom of their range or get hero called with king and ace highs.
