If there are multiple people in the pot and you're not on the button or in the BB, probably not. It doesn't hit the flop hard enough to beat multiple players often enough, so calling will be a losing play on average.
97o is basically garbage in a full ring game.
If you are a beginner , No, just let them go. You would need to score fairly big with them to make up for all the times they cost you chips. This would be hard for an in experienced player to pull off. Fold and wait for better cards in almost all situations.
^^ Well certainly in this situation (BB) (no action) checking rather than folding is preferred. But it is still crap position with a crap hand that won't play well usually and will sometimes get a beginner into needless trouble.
