By heads-up tournament, I assume that you're talking about 2-player tables. where a player wins and go on to the next opponent.

Obviously it's simple to figure out if you start with, for example, 32 players at the first level, then 16, then 8, then 4, then 2 at the final table.

I can't think of any other way that it could be fair. The biggest problem would be if someone no-shows or can't continue for any reason. You could have alternates to take a spot if someone didn't show, but if someone gets ill during the tournament, or someone doesn't show up and you don't have alternates, leaving you with seven players, it wouldn't be fair to add an alternate 8th player who would only have to win three times to take it down.

The only solution that I can see is that if there is an empty chair, the one player left at the table would get a bye.

Returning to poker after several years away from the game, and I was looking for micro/low stakes HU/NL hold'em games. I presume these exist? I have only been on stars but I cannot find any HU games in the lobby (on ipad app), I presume I am doing something wrong?

Also, I've read alot of 'GTO' around NL-HU? I presume this is nonsense and it is still a beatable format?

Thanks,

I can't help you in regard to HU availability.

But GTO "nonsense"? Again, I don't play HU....but I would assume that HU play in the micros is much more difficult than when you played in the past (how long ago?). And because of the HU format, I assume that GTO strategy reaches closer to the micro area HU than with 6M or FR. I wouldn't know where the dividing line is (25NL?, 50NL?....10NL YIKES)....so really I have not much to offer. My best guess is that in the true micros, solid game play using an exploitive strategy is enough to allow you to play while you work out what works for you in today's poker environment.

Good question....and one that gets kicked around here on a fairly regular basis.

Go to main BQ page and look upper right for Search This Forum tab.

Type in stuff like "beginner online" and "online vs. live" and "where to start"........ endless phrases will get you HUNDREDS of threads directly addressing your query.

Good Luck.

Is it better to just call/fold or only do it as a squeeze vs late positions? when I'm in blinds etc

Couple of possible misprints from Owen Gaines' "Poker Math that Matters".

Here's how he poses and answers the questions:

Hero: 4s5s

Villain: Ah8d

Board: 5dAs9c

The question is how many outs does the Hero have and he answers 6 - 2 Fives, 3 Fours, and "One backdoor spades out" after which he adds "Remember to look for backdoor flush and straight outs. We count them roughly as one out each."

But, isn't there a backdoor straight draw as well? According to his criteria shouldn't we count this as 1 out, making the total outs 7?

Another one:

Hero: AcQd

Villain: JdJh

Board: 3s5c5d

This is an implied odds question he proceeds to answer based on the premise there are 6 outs for the Hero. 3 Aces and 3 Queens. But again, don't we have a running straight draw, or am I nuts? And according to his criteria we would count this as 1 out and so he should answer this question using 7 outs.

Somebody tell me whether or not I'm crazy!!

Google: The name of the game likely descended from the Irish Poca (Pron. Pokah) ('Pocket') or even the French poque, which descended from the German pochen ('to brag as a bluff' lit. 'to knock').

What are the missing cards is all you can do. As an example, you have two spades in your hand and there are two spades on the flop. 13 total spades minus the four you see leaves you with 9 total spades left of all the unknown cards to you. (doesn't matter if they are in the opponents hands or in the dealer's "stub" (what's remaining in the deck).

Now couple this with the entire deck (52 cards) minus the spades we know (4) and the other known flop card (x= nonspade) and you come up with 8 spade cards left out of the unknown 47 cards....which is the ratio we use to 'count'. 9/47 = .191 or about one in every 5 cards left in the stub.

There is no way to definitively rank softness of players on an online poker site. It is all too subjective. I may find the players on Stars to be very difficult to beat but others will say that the sheer volume of players means there are more less-skilled opponents. It is all relative to WHO is doing the ranking.

I'd rather play on a site with 100 players of which 50 suck rather than a site of 10000 players where 1000 suck, just because there's more bad players doesn't mean the average quality of player is worse and you still need the bad players to be at your table

Your playing 10/25 6-max. The small blind limps and the BB raises 1.5 pot.
Does the BB make it 75 or 100? Or something else? I confused myself somehow.
Notes:
After the SB limps the pot is 50.
1.5 the pot is 75.
75 + call (which is 0) is 75.
So does the BB make it 75.
Or he raises 75 + 25 already in the pot, so 100?
Thanks.
Edit: I have a grid that says SB/BB ISO = 1.5 POT

What is a good sample size for HU sng's? Say to give you a reasonable idea that you are a winner/loser? I'm talking micro stakes. If you won say 600 out of 1,000 games, any good?
