Most of the live players around the Bricks and Mortar Forum seem to believe that you tell the guy once that he is showing you his cards because it is unethical not to warn him , but after you have done that if he is waving them around in your view feel free to use knowledge of his cards if the opportunity occurs.

When someone asks a question and says "line check" what does that mean?

They're asking for comments on the play of the hand.

Line = Their sequence of play.

i let the table know as soon as i seen his card(s). i then make it a point not to look toward his cards. the dealer and other players will rightfully be upset if you continue to look. if he continues to wave them around, let the table know that you saw em, each time he does it.

I've searched through the text file of my PS HH looking for specific hands using "find", and search for something unique to the hand.

I just started using the beta version of tracking software, but I imagine PT3 is much more sophisticated and has the ability to filter for specifics that will help you find the hand in question.

Pokerstove. So many numbers and boxes and so little direction. A friend told me to pick it up, but how do I use it effectively??

There are tons of applications, but here are the basic mechanics:

Type in a hand or range for a couple players. hands look like:

AKo [an offsuit ace king]
ATs [Ace-Ten suited]
2h7c [2 hearts, 7 clubs]
(if you type AK, pstove will assume the range AKo,AKs)

Sample ranges:
22+ [any pair above twos]
AKo,ATs,7h2c,22+
A8s-ATs

As you type, the box will be red until you get the format right (commas, no spaces...)

You can also type in a board, if you're testing postflop equity. they have to be specific, suits included:
3c7dJsAh

You can also click the PlayerN button to get a more graphical hand chooser. shift-click, ctrl-click, etc all do stuff, experiment. if you use the "preflop" tab, there's a slider at the bottom that either tells you how broad a range you've selected, or allows you to set an x% range. Pstove uses an algorithm based on preflop equity against 3 random hands (or something like that) to decide which hands to include. It's a rough, but reasonable, approximation of what people play first.

Back on the main screen, click "RD" to give that player a random hand.

Then hit evaluate. for a simple two-player calc, it will go pretty quick. if you have several players all with broad ranges, it could take forever. if you use the default "enumerate all", the result could be very wrong unless you let it finish.

If you can't wait, you can hit the radio button for "monte carlo" before starting the calc. this goes through permutations randomly, so it's not precise, but if you watch, you'll see it settle into an approximate answer after some indeterminate amount of time. when the numbers stop changing much, it's done baking. mostly, you just use enumerate all, and wait for it to finish within 10 or 15 seconds.

Then the results -- the percentage pot equity of each hand -- show in the "output" section, copy and paste them to your favorite online forum to prove whatever point you are arguing.

What is this called?
When your playing a NL Holdem tournament. I raise say 150, next person says raise and only puts in 200 saying he only wanted to raise it up t50. I know this isn't allowed but in my home game last week a few people did it and wouldn't listen to me/others when we said u have to at least min-bet. Maybe if i had a name for it next week i'd be able to explain why this isn't allowed.

It's called "you have to raise at least the amount of the previous bet".

I have heard it called an 'under-raise', as in "That is an under-raise, you can't do that". Not sure if that is an official term.

There is no specific name for this concept that I'm aware of, rather it is a general rule. You can refer your fellow players to Robert's Rules of Poker, Section 14, #3:

"All raises must be equal to or greater than the size of the previous bet or raise on that betting round, except for an all-in wager."

Don't know the keywords to search for this, but what does the +XX mean in the buy-in for SnG's?
***** Official Dumb Questions Thread **** Quote

It refers to the rake/tournament fee, in other words it is money that you pay, but instead of going into the prize pool it goes to the operator of the tournament.

For example, if you play a $10+$1 SnG with 9 players at PokerStars, everybody pays $11 to participate. $10 from each player give a total prize pool of $90, and PokerStars gets a total of $9 for their efforts.

Alright I admit to sucking at searching this thread/forum/Googling, since none have pointed me in the right direction, but please fill me in on the frequency for flopping set under set, because I have had at least 30 spots in my last hand 30k hands of this happening and only once flopping set over set in this time frame according to my HEM.

It happens about 1/100 times.

This depends on so many things, in particular your range and your opponent's range. Not sure this is the right place to discuss it though; you might check out that Poker Theory forum.

However, Cliff notes: Play bigger pairs.

Hi BurningSquirrel
Load PT3, click on the Texas Hold'em tab on the top, click on the Settings button near the top right, go to the General tab, then in the Screen Name section near the top click on the Search button to the right of it, wait for the list to populate, click on your screenname, click on the Okay buy, then click the Apply button. Good luck, Yojimgari

I've search for this one, can't find it.

Yep, here's a dumb one: What does the "c" mean in 1/2c, as in the the type of game. Cents?

also, what is 2nl?

Couldn't find these in the beginner's abbreviations.
