The US DoJ seized the domain names of of the most popular sites (inc Pokerstars) effectively making them closed for US business, seized a ton of money, and shut down most of the payment processors (claiming wire fraud/money laundering). All TV advertising was immediately stopped, so even if the sites were operational, the recreational players didn't hear about them. The few sites that stayed open are shady at best, and face significant payment processing problems (and a lack of liquidity).

I thought the answer would be no, and it would be something to put on the feature request list, but actually it's already there. In HEM2's replayer, click on the "gear" icon to bring up HUD options. Deselect "Show known cards".
