If you're gonna buy a cash bonus using FPPs on Stars, they say that you have to accumulate a certain points of "base" FPP before they clear your bonus. Is this disregarding your current VIP Level? I mean, is it basically VPP points and not FPPs?

Yes. Whenever Stars uses the term "base FPP" substitute VPP. I dunno why they keep using that term, it's super-confusing and everybody's complained about it a hundred times because every new Stars player has a problem with it.

Are there any good mnemonics for keeping the status of straights and flushes straight in razz, 2-7 and other lowballs?

In Razz straights and flushes don't count against you.

This helps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowball_(poker)

If it has 2-7 in the name then straights and flushes count against you (thus the lowest hand involves a 2-7, not a 2-6 or A-5 'cos they would be straights).

Razz is A-5 lowball stud, London lowball is ... ahh bugger it, it's all on the Wikipedia page above

I'm new here, and to poker for the most part, and figured I'd post my first question in the "Dumb Questions Thread". Here goes nothing...

When playing home tournament games, we've run into the following situation, and seeing as it's mostly family who aren't terribly knowledgable of every rule under the sun, we've been unsure on the rules of this situation.

If the BB gets knocked out on a hand, how should the blinds work on the next hand? Normally the SB would move to the previous BB position, and the previous UTG position would become the BB. But since the BB was knocked out of the game on the previous hand, does the BB simply skip the UTG now? That may be a dumb question, but being fairly new, I wasn't sure how it should work. It seems odd that a position would get to skip out on the BB and move right to the SB.

I hope that makes sense. I made this post in a rush since I'm supposed to be working. I'll clarify anything I may have missed or made confusing. Thanks in advanced for any help.

The SB is only paid by the person that paid the BB in the last hand, so if the BB is knocked out, no SB is posted. The SB position is "dead". The UTG player is the BB for next hand and the previous SB is now on the button.

Term clarifications:

3betting light?
Does this mean widening your 3bet range, or 3betting a lower amount than you normally would? Like 15bb's as opposed to 20 or something along those lines?

Float?
My impression of this is when you call/check in a spot where you have a pretty decent hand. Is this correct? What is the purpose of this if I am correct, implied odds or inducing a bet from an agro opp.?

If you bet someone "light" (3bet, value bet, whatever) you are betting with a hand that has less value against Villain's range in a particular situation. It doesn't have anything to do with the size of your bet, but rather the equity your hand has against Villain's range.

Floating is calling with the intent to push Villain off their hand on a later street. You don't necessarily have to have a pretty decent hand to do it.

So a float may be calling a bet on a flop of 68Q with your AJ when you feel your opponent didnt hit but you could push them off if you reraise or just raise big on the turn?

Basically a 2-part bluff?

A float is more typically calling a 68Q flop with J3 intending to push someone off, not with AJ.

Yeppers

For example, if you know Villain likes to cbet any flop but will shut down if he has whiffed and is called, you can float him on the flop and take the pot down on the turn.

Your monthly VPPs (what stars are based on, SN/SNE are based on yearly) reset at the start of every month. (You can check by checking your VIP status in the cashier tab)

People like action and they get more action in 6max. It's also easier to isolate and you get more hands/hour.

Regarding online security, do most of you guys use a separate email for poker accounts? Is this necessary, or overkill?
I use my email for everything else, including MSN messenger.

Starting to have some monies now so getting scared ha

No, I don't think a second email would add any security. I could be wrong, but never heard of anyone using that as a security measure.
