Question: What software do you use to e.g. keep track of your winrate, your hand histories etc. I like Pokeroffice, but I see it costs 79$ a year. Isn't there any freeware as good as that?

Thx

No, there's no freeware. These are complex programs and serious poker players generally have money to spend.

The two major competitors are Hold'em Manager and Poker Tracker 3. There are trial versions available for both. You'll probably get more information in the Software forum.

Ok, I've got a stupid question. When 2+2ers say 'ghey' do they mean 'gay'?
And, if so, why the spelling change?

Yes.

Same reason as "moran", "pwned", "rollz", "ZOMG", "ORLY", etc, etc.

What does TR mean?

I've looked at the Beginners FAQs and TR doesn't show up on the terms. I see it on the titles and in the posts. Does it mean Thread or something?

Is it within the rules of texas hold 'em to reveal your cards during play? whether you've folded or if you're still playing? I ask because it seems like some strategy could be employed by revealing one of your cards during play.

Generally no, unless your name is Gold... lol

From Robert's Rules:

The following actions are improper, and grounds for warning, suspending, or barring a violator:

Revealing the contents of a live hand in a multihanded pot before the betting is complete.

Revealing the contents of a folded hand before the betting is complete. Do not divulge the contents of a hand during a deal even to someone not in the pot, so you do not leave any possibility of the information being transmitted to an active player.

Depends where you're playing. In most tournaments this will get you a warning and/or penalty. May be okay in most cash games depending on local rules.

The only guaranteed effect is that everyone will think you're a n00b or Hollywooding jerk or both.

Can anyone tell me about the typical deal on staking a player??

In this case, I'm the player, so I want to know about both tournament and cash games in terms of split, etc.

My backers will be players I've played with for years. They know I'm a decent player and will probably show a return.

Thanks in advance.....

You should read this:

There's a bunch of good staking info in the first post.

Slansky Bucks - Is this a perfect measure to how much money you deserve to have? or is it flawed? how is it calculated?

Yes.

This is my understanding, been awhile since I've used it so sorry if I get corrected:

IFF (notice 2 F's) you see your opponents cards (this makes it flawed), then it will calculate your equity to win a hand versus the equity you contributed to the pot. The difference is calculated as your sklansk's bucks.

The flaw is that you're more likely to fold when you're behind. All of the money you put into that pot when you were behind doesnt get counted, because you do not see your opponents cards.

It calculates your equity when all-in, and only when you're all-in.

Let's say I have AcTc the flop comes QsJsKd, I bet, call. Turn comes 2c, I bet and accidentally leave him with $0.10 left, river is the 3s. He pushes I call and he shows 8s7s. My equity isn't adjusted at all because 'all' the money went in on the river and I had no chance to win.

Are you sure Cruzer? I thought that was the all-in luck graph.

That's how they calculate EV graphs in HEM, I don't know if that's the same as Sklansky bucks but I'd assume they are the same.

I used to think this about PEV graphs, but it's not so. PEV calculates the value of every street if it knows the hole cards.

say you raise 10bb preflop with KK, and get called by AA and QQ, and all 3 hands show down eventually. PEV graphs that as a big -$klansky event.

It is NOT a complete picture, though, because if AA later folds in the hand, preflop is recorded as a big +$klansky event.
