Exposing a card or cards in tournaments generally results first in a warning and then a time penalty if repeated . In some places it results in the hand being killed.

Robert's Rules of Poker

Quote:
22. Showing cards from a live hand during the action injures the rights of other players still competing in an event, who wish to see contestants eliminated. A player in a multihanded pot may not show any cards during a deal. Heads-up, a player may not show any cards unless the event has only two remaining players, or is winner-take-all. If a player deliberately shows a card, the player may be penalized (but his hand will not be ruled dead). Verbally stating one’s hand during the play may be penalized.

How many hands can you expect to get in per table per hour in a 6max NLHE game?

6 max NLHE averages at about 75-80~ hands per hour. (4 tabling is around 300 hands/hr~)

Just wondering what people think is an acceptable minimum number of hands to have on a villain before you can start making reads on him? (6max NLHE)

When people use stats to define players on this site what are they referring to? Im assuming the first is VPIP but what are the others- for example a player is 21/19 or 21/19/10 or whatever...

I think you can start making reads after 25, how accurate the reads are improves as you get more hands on the villain.

If villain is 80/15/0.8 over 25 hands, you can't expect him to be 12/12/inf over 1,000 hands, ducy?

I personally feel comfortable with 75+ hands when making reads. But some people say you need at least 200 hands to even begin to read someone.

It's in the sticky.
xx/yy/zz

xx = VP$IP (voluntarily put $ into pot)
yy = PFR (Preflop Raise)
zz = AF (Aggression Factor)

Hello,

i've heard people talking about a player lending money to another and then "playing behind" in a cash game on several occasions.

What does this mean exactly?

A forum search returned nothing.

thx.

It means taking someone's seat and playing their stack for them. Usually making up any losses and keeping any profit. the most common reasons for this would be if someone is sitting down and someone else is leaving and doesn't have chips yet (waiting for chiprunner) or if a friend is going to just play a few hands in a buddy's spot.

Just in case CMAR's 'tone' wasn't reassuring enough.

10NL, ($0.05/$0.10)

When you hit your 6,000th post, your title changes to "carpal/tunnel." Some posters use this as a milestone post to author something useful, like an article on a specific aspect of play, say continuation betting or hand reading or bankroll management.

"Dude, what's MoonOrb gonna do for his carpal/tunnel post?"

"I dunno, but if it's about pot equity again, I'm definitely not reading it!"

Thats for the explanation. Also while going through some archived posts that a coach collected somewhere on this site http://www.pr0crast.com/2+2.NL.Anthology.v1.htm, people keep mentioned FTOP and I don't see it in the Beginners FAQ acronym list.

What does FTOP stand for? I know Full Tilt poker has a series called FTOP but this is not what they are referencing.

It's the Fundamental Theorem of Poker. David Sklansky discusses it in the Theory of Poker (TOP) among other places:

Every time you play a hand differently from the way you would have played it if you could see all your opponents' cards, they gain; and every time you play your hand the same way you would have played it if you could see all their cards, they lose. Conversely, every time opponents play their hands differently from the way they would have if they could see all your cards, you gain; and every time they play their hands the same way they would have played if they could see all your cards, you lose.

Say I'd want to play the Sunday Million this week on Stars, with the double guarantee and all that, but I don't want to spend the 200-or-whatever dollars on it. What satellites would you recommend?

I put 50 dollars on PS and i have been playing the $1.00 +.20 SNG's. Is that the right game to be playing with the money i have. I also play .2/.5 cash games. I do pretty good in the SNG's, should i step up into bigger games.

Another question i have is when i play the SNG should i play tight to start, i know i shouldnt be playing trashlike hands, but i know i cant wait for big hands all the time. I try to steal blinds when i can, but can i play hands like
A6 suited in middle position. It seems everyone in the game just calls the blinds, do i need to loosen up a little more. Any advice would be great thanks.
