Nope, you can look at your hole cards as and when you want. Although some players will always wait for the action to be on them before looking at their cards, but like you said there may be some kind of contract on television cash games that makes the players look at their hole cards at a certain time. But if you are just going to a casino or home game, you can look at your cards whenever you wish to.

Well yes, all players are better at one type of game than another. The most common advice, and best advice you will get is to simply play STT solely, and i would have to say the same. But if you really want to play cash tables i suggest you play at lower stakes, so it doesn't damage your bankroll when you lose buy-ins.

You can look at your cards as soon as you get them.

That's like asking if some people are better at basketball than soccer. They're both sports but they're very different skill sets.

I'm moving from Stars to FTP - what do I need to know?

I'm playing micro HUSNG (Going to be doing $5's to start, or whatever if closest to that on FT). My understanding is that FT rakeback will be better than stars VIP program for me, since I won't be able to reach the higher levels playing my micro stakes games.

What is the best rakeback deal (are they all the same or do some places give you more?), are there any catches to the deposit bonus? Anything else I should be aware of?

I didn't know anything when I signed up for Stars and I would like to avoid doing something stupid here. I know FT is very strongly against multi-accounting so I assume I only get one shot at this.

I was cruising around the RB forum but it's a bit intimidating. I barely understand how/why RB exists, and all the offers are overwhelming. I just want to do the standard thing and not get scammed or something. Is there one site in particular that most people use for RB from FT?

Any general advice at all would be appreciated.

All the public Rakeback offers are the same. 27%. The deposit bonus will conteract rakeback untill the bonus is completed. Then rakeback will start paying you the "full" amount. As for which particular website to get rakeback from, I do not think we're supposed to advertise. But there are a few sites here that are also in the sponsored support forum. I'd suggest giving one those a shot.

Just pick one and go to the thread like this, and be sure to follow the instructions in order to receive everything properly. Rakeback is a hassle, but it's well worth it.

Thanks, Bacon. I was just afraid because all of the rakeback sites set off scam alarm bells in my head. It doesn't look like too much of a hassle.

What's the highest percentage you're willing to pay for a vip fee for live tournaments? Online they're pretty low but live they can be ridiculous sometimes.

Just a short question about a hand:

Full Tilt Poker $0.05/$0.10 Limit Hold'em - 8 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

Pre Flop: (1.4 SB) Hero is MP1 with A A
2 folds, Hero raises, 1 fold, CO calls, 3 folds

Flop: (5.4 SB) T K Q (2 players)
Hero bets, CO calls

I figure he may have anything here. He wouldn't raise with a straight draw, and he could have a weak king, middle or even bottom pair.

Turn: (3.7 BB) 9 (2 players)
Hero bets, CO raises, Hero calls

This is scary. I suspect I may be beat, but showing weakness might incite a bluff if I'm not. Is b/f better here?

Hmm, I probably check the turn, call the river if he bets and value bet if he checks. I might be losing some value here but you can also get in a lot of trouble with this hand. There are just so many hands he could have here and I'd be looking to simplify my decision making until showdown. As played, fold to the raise. If you call the raise definitely fold to more action on the river.

I used to play a lot of 15/30 when Partypoker was the biggest online site around; must have been 5 years ago since I played regularly. I've been thinking about playing a bit more again for a while now but so much has changed. I am in the UK so I can still play at Party but how are the games there now? I'll probably just play 3/6 or 5/10, so I was just wondering what the various sites are like these days.

I've got about $60 online and don't want to deposit again. I've been playing $1 6max SNG's (mostly non turbo) and have a 15% ROI in them after 90 of them (but I don't have much profit due to trying to find out what I wanted to play and some tilt at the very beginning). So the question is- how many buy in's should I have for these 6max SST's? When can I move up to the $2+.25?

The games are soft there, from what I've experienced anyway. BUT, there's **** all tables. I think today I saw a total number of 2 tables of 3/6, and one of 5/10 running.

I like to play on Cake. I see there are satelites where you can win a ticket to a tourney, for ex right now there is a turbo to win a ticket into a 10k event. Can you keep the ticket and play any 10k event, or are you automatically registered for the next 10k?

Also, I see on Cake the prohibit a lot of programs, and I don't want to break any rules. I emailed support to ask if I could use deucescracked hand converter to post on here to discuss how the hand was played and they sent back a standard "any use of programs that blah blah blah is not allowed". I resent it explaining it wouldn't be to get info on opponents or track their play, but to discuss hands.

I then got a reply saying that they consulted another rep about the question and then gave the exact same reply (seemed it is just copied and pasted) any programs... are not allowed. I don't know if I should ask this in the Cake thread but I am such a noob, I figured I would start here.

Thanks, Amber

Amber: This is the "dumb questions" thread, not the "dumb answers" thread. Those replies from Cake are seriously dumb answers.

You can use a hand converter to post Cake hands. Customer service reps aren't always the most knowledgeable...

Just a quick simple question for anyone.

I just won 200$ in an Full Tilt Freeroll. I've never cashed out before and I'd like to cash this out. First, what's the best method? I was debating between check (15 business days) or direct to my Visa. Can anyone chime in on both methods and direct a newbie towards the one that will yield less problems?

Thank you.

For answers to these kinds of questions, you'll need to include information about where you live.

There are likely multiple threads about cash out issues already in Internet Poker which might give you more information.

If you are able to cash out to your VISA (not all VISAs will allow this) it's a far better method as it shows up in your account in a couple days.

There is an option for email notification when someone replies to a thread you are subscribed to, but it can be a pain if you are subscribed to a ton of threads. You are automatically subscribed to a thread when you reply, but you can also manually subscribe to a thread without replying. Personally, I prefer clicking on "My 2+2/Subscribed Threads" since it's fairly efficient and doesn't clutter up my inbox.

Gedanken is correct, but just be aware that post count doesn't always equal quality. There are some posters here who have a high post count who are incredibly helpful and offer good advice, but there are others who post lots of nonsense in a short time and build up a high post count within a short time. If you get involved regularly, you'll quickly figure out who those worth listening to are, and be able to filter through the sometimes low signal to noise ratio.

And CMAR is a fifth degree black belt AFAIK.

general tax question:

I don't play a ton of poker but maybe make 3-5k a year extra. Should I be reporting what I actually 'win' or what I cash out to my bank account for the year?
