notecaddy and badges

Just purchased notecaddy and not getting on very well with it.
I am trying to construct note definitions and add badges but don't seem to be able to do it.
Really could do with someone helping me out by using teamviewer to jump on my screen and talk me through it.
If anyone would be so kind I would be very grateful.

Re: notecaddy and badges

have you tried looking in the notecaddy thread for help/info ,plenty there .

i heard that notecaddy (standard) has limited badges and you have to pay for more as a add on maybe im mistaken.

i purchased NC edge afterwards which had badges/def's done for you.

Re: notecaddy and badges

Yeah I might go down the notecaddy edge route, have also signed up to something called notecaddy predator, which has a free trial. But kind of wanted to customise stuff myself.

And yes have seen the thread, will post on there also

Thanks

Re: notecaddy and badges

Just looked up NC Edge. Is it really just someone who made a HUD using Notecaddy premium and selling it for $200?

Are there any features on it that people with Notecaddy premium can't make themselves if they weren't too lazy to learn how to do so?

Re: notecaddy and badges

well its $100 for CG and i also purchased the mtt version also.
i dont see why you couldnt do it yourself if you had the time/skill to know what and how to do things correctly.

As far as I know, the various packages that are available were created in exactly the same way that you or I could.

As I'm a geek, I kind of enjoy writing the scripts, although it's incredibly time-consuming to do it. (It's a total PITA when you make a note, refresh the database to get the note added to your villains and then you realise your note is slightly flawed, because you chose a "wrong" percentage or range for a stat. You then have to reset all the notes and refresh the database again, which can take hours.)

Re: notecaddy and badges

PMed Arty and he was kind enough to write this reply, so big thanks to him and hope it helps someone else.

Hi,

Notecaddy takes a while to get to grips with. I literally spent WEEKS (or maybe months!) getting it to work how I wanted it, and I'd still be tweaking some of the badges/definitions today if I wasn't currently playing HUDless.

I don't really have time to explain in detail, otherwise I would have offered to screenshare/skype with you.
One of the confusing things about NC is that the scripting system was completely changed with version 2.0 (I think). Action Sequences replaced the old system (just called "previous actions" I think). Action Sequences give you more control, but take longer to set up. The old system still creates notes, but you can't write new definitions with it.

If you're creating new notes, you need to learn how to write action sequences, and this is where it gets confusing. You can no longer just tick a box to select "action: Bet". You have to manually name and define an action.
e.g. Let's suppose I was making a note definition for finding out someone's c-betting frequency and range.
First I chose NEW NOTE DEFINITION, and then I go to Pre-flop>ActionSequences and make a new sequence/definition. Let's call it "RaisedPre". I SAVE NEW definition, and then duplicate it on the right hand side and choose the action "Raised", while checking the boxes marked "Player had to be the note recipient" and "player's final action this street".

That's the pre-flop action defined. Now I go to the FLOP tab, and set up another sequence, specifying that the note recipient has to bet.

Now that the pre-flop and flop action sequences have been defined, I can tweak other settings for things like sizings, range, effective stack etc. I don't generally need these specifics, so my main c-bet flop note just looks like this on the GENERAL tab:

I used "C-bets $flophandrange" as that will tell me how often someone c-bets (and with what range, when known). Note that I've ticked the "Define opportunities by action" box. This will keep track of the total c-bet frequency, giving a simple number like 8/10 in the HUD.

To make a note on how often someone bets a straight draw, you start by making yet another note definition, and create an action sequence for the flop (which could be as simple as "bets flop", just like the c-bet one I explained above) and then you go to the FLOP> RANGE tab. Here you can tick all the boxes for the type of draws you want to count.

I have a definition I called "Flopped Straight Draw Aggression $flophandrange". This note counts every time a villain had a straight draw (and saw a showdown) and keeps track of whether he bet it or not. If I wanted to find out how often a villain RAISES with a SD, I'd have to make a new note definition, and specify that instead of BETTING the flop, he has to RAISE.
It's actually quite difficult to get a meaningful sample size for esoteric things like raising with certain hand strengths/draws, so I think you're better off starting with very general stuff like "Raises flop $flophandrange" as that can give you a good idea of what a villain is raising with over a smaller sample.
If you want to know if a villain barrels the turn with a flopped SD, then you need to set up an action sequence on the flop AND the turn. (i.e. bets flop... bets turn, range = straight draw). For my purposes, I just have generic stuff like "Bets turn $turnhandrange", as I can put that together with a HUD stats for C-bet Flop and be able to tell how often some is barreling light.

I could literally talk about this stuff all day, but it's too time consuming. You'd have to pay me to really get into the nitty gritty. Like I said in the thread, it's really time consuming to make all the notes you might like to see, which is why people are selling packages. I've spent so many hours on making my own notes and badges that I feel my own notes are worth a lot more than $100 to me. You might find that once you get to grips with NC that it's worth just as much to you. The premium packages might not suit your purposes at all, but making your own is definitely beneficial.

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Arty

Re: notecaddy and badges

Screengrabs are missing in the post above, but I doubt anyone else was looking for a NoteCaddy tutorial. I hope not, anyway. That software gives me a headache.

Glad to have helped you out, though, Bucski.

One little thing to add here. Action sequences have the "quick select" drop down where you can pick from check boxes just like the old system. This will also contain the most common sequences and any items you've made so you never have to make the same one twice.
