How to study for spread limit games ? How to study for spread limit games ?

The main game that I currently play in is a spread limit game at a local card club. I have only found 1 good article about spread limit strategy.

I would like to know, how should I study for this game? Should I be studying limit or no limit material or is there some valuable spread limit resources that I am not aware of ??

Thanks a lot

Spread plays basically like NL. Definitely not Limit.

It is a unique betting structure that isn't too common. I know of two different styles of spread games:

1. $2-$10
This is probably a $1-$2 blind with a minimum bet/raise of $2 but could be any dollar raise up to $10. Obviously a raise/reraise would have to at least match the previous bet/raise like in a NL setup. This betting structure would be for all streets.

2. $1-$4-$8
This is probably a $0.50-$1 blind. The same approach occurs as above, but with a bit of a twist. Preflop and on the flop the spread would be $1-$4 but on the turn and river it would be $1-$8. Gives an interesting twist and ability to put a bit more pressure on the later streets.

OP - because of the setup, I would approach this as more of a fixed game than a NL game. Due to the rigidity of the betting, players will get better pot odds which will cause more show downs and the need to have the best hand. One philosophy that I have seen regarding spread games is to really approach them as if they were fixed. That way you can mask the strength of your hand while placing maximum pressure on villian.

Of course I say all this without asking what type of setup the game has, maybe the setup will cause a differennt response... What type of spread game do you play?

With that wide of a spread it would definately be approached as a NL style game. I did an advanced search for spread limit games and it seems that most conversation happens in the "Live Low-stakes NL" forum here. There are also some in the "Brick and Mortar" forum.

Here is one link that I found that should get you started:
