Need Help? Ask me

Hey everyone its been a little while since i posted in this forum, i used to post here back when i sucked and would lose money to poker.

Now i live off of poker, play mostly NL 400 and 6 max as well as full ring. Basically i want to give back to this forum a bit for absorbing some information.

If you have any question about ANYTHING to do with CASH GAMES (i know some SnG/MTT stuff as well, but not nearly as well as it isnt my main game.) go ahead and ask me in this thread. Also if you need any help message me @ MrPresidentPolk on aim.

I hope this post doesn't come off as conceited, i am just happy that poker has offered me the opportunity that it has, and i am looking to give back here a bit. I will also post in some of the threads but a lot of them tilt me because a lot of the questions are thee same ones over and over again, and a lot of the people who give advice in this forum are not even necessarily correct. Regardless generally speaking it is ok advice and I want to help you! So go ahead and ask me anything cash game related. Hands, Strategy, BR, you name it, i am here to help.

Re: Need Help? Ask me

Which specific 2p2 forums helped you improve your game the most?

If you had to start over, knowing what you know now, what one piece of advice would you give yourself?

What beginner's mistake that you were making took the longest to discover and correct?

I have always been mainly a FR player, so those have been the most helpful for me. This forum is ok when your starting up but really the bread and butter is posting hands in your respective forum. Recently the FR forum split into 2 forums, but you can still get good advice in the micro forum.

Pick a game (cash for me), and stick to it. I wasted so much time messing around trying different stuff. Nowadays i occasionally break up the games by trying something new but now i am able to do because of how versatile my game has become. When you start up you need to pick a game and stick with it (and that game should be cash but w/e).

95% of the people on 2+2 who end up losing they money lose it not because they just suck (although that hurts you), but from not having good br management and tilt control. Pick a game, stick with it, dont tilt, move down if you lose a lot. Tomorrow always feels better when you wake up realizing you only lost 2 bi, then if you go on crazy tilt and lose your roll.

How do 400nl FR games compare to the smaller stake games like 50nl as far as VIP, overall aggression, player skill goes?

Move to stars ASAP and play 1/2 cent. Message me and i will get your money over there for you if you want. That is really the only good way to go from here.

NL 400 games are MUCH MUCH MUCH tigher preflop, and oftentimes its so tight playing super loose agro can be good. That said people will still come in and attack you if you get too loose, so you have to find a good mixture to play optimal imo.

FWIW i play like 15/12 and i think given how many tables i play that is probably optimal FOR ME.

i never had very good success at NL 50 for some reason. After looking at my database for the average player I have that

NL 50 (from Summary tab): VPIP:24 PFR:7
NL 400 : VPIP:18 PFR:11

That said BOTH of those samples are small, the nl 50 one is like extremely small so if your numbers are different then obviously yours will probably be more correct. That said the generally idea is that people play less crap, and they play their hands more aggressively.

at this moment in your career rakeback is so little and so meaningless that it really doesnt matter just get your money over to stars and get good at cash.

At what level did you find you were making enough money to earn a living out of poker?

How many hours per day do you play?

24 tabling nl 25 i make like ~$50 an hour before fpps and probably 60 after, so i think realistically you could probably live pretty solid off of that if you worked it like a job.

I could make like $20 an hour 24 tabling 1/2 cent but that starts to get dangerously into minimum wage territory, so probably NL 50.

I play prob like 5-6 hours a day almost every day.

Play 1/2c until you have enough to play NL 2/5c. Stick to cash games, they are by far the way to go.

Re: Need Help? Ask me

So i was reading this post, and saw your advice that you need to stick with a game you're good at and play it.

That is definitely my biggest weakness. I play the .02/.05 10nl on stars, and absolutely kill it, I look at how much i've won, and its barely enough for a happy meal. I get complacent and move to sng's or move up, and break even or lose a little, and then get pissed off.

I need to set a hand limit on a game, and say i'm going to play 50k hands at this level before I can think of moving up or something liek that.

Re: Need Help? Ask me

Hi,

My natural tendency is tight passive. I have built my game over time at becoming tight agressive (26/7/2.5). I still have to work on my PF agression ...

Here are my cash game stats so far:

NL10 (6 max) - 44k hands = 1.3 ptBB
NL20 (6 max) - 32K hands = 4.8 ptBB

I have always been focusing on 6 max games and have stayed away from FL due to the overall consensus here that this is where the money is.

Considering my style of play and natural tendencies, would you suggest that I put time in at FL? Would there be advantages for me playing FL instead of 6max ?

Thanks for your help

yup had the same problem when i started up. Id grind 1/2c and play 4.50 180s with the money i would win. After a while i was like wait wtf why am i not just playing the cash games =p.

Wow 26/7/2.5 is NOT tight aggressive, that is actually kind of a fish's stats.

STOP calling with junk preflop, just stop it. There is only ONE spot you should cold call preflop, and thats with a pocket pair facing a raise. EVERYTHING else should be raise or fold (and a lot of folding). you are playing WAYY too many hands and you need to cut that down.

You should be more like 20/17/4, you def need to work on those stats. Also for sure stay with NL, FL is teh ghey imo.

You said cold calling raises should be done with PP, otherwise raise or fold.
How do you play Suited Connectors?

For example UTG+2 raises 2-3x BB, CO calls and you are on the button with a hand like 54s-JTs, do you tend to fold here, raise or call?

Same question but in regards to playing Axs, what is your standard line if its been raised & cold called before your turn to act.

squeeze it unless utg+2 has an uber tight range in which case a call is ok, but if utg+2 is even raising all pocket pairs i like a squeeze.

I dont like Axs that much in general, i find they dont do great for me. However i will still squeeze or fold them.

Really calling is just terrible if its not set mining.

Recently, I had this discussion w/ someone at work. If you look at most pros, they are versatile, but are really, really good in one are of the game. And this does not just go for poker - it's everything in life~!
