Multi-Tabling Question Multi-Tabling Question

What would be the recommended hands to play for multi-tabling? With little to no time to make decisions, are there just standard playable hands in these situations or it's more complicated than that?

My advice would be to restrict tables, not hands.

I was thinking around 6 to 8. Any standard starting hands for multi-tabling?

Play more than 4 and I think you just need to nit it up.

Why do you want to multitable?

I wanted to see what I could achieve if I put in some volume, rather than so many hours.

? People used to play up to 30 tables and you say you gotta "nit it up" on 5? Granted, hardcore multitabling is not that great, but playing 10-12 regular tables is very easily managable. The strategy of course does not change.

That being said, OP, if you are a beginner (which I assume since you post here), you should focus on quality, not quantity, and play as few tables as you can - add more tables only if you feel bored when playing your current number.

People put in volume back in the day because of rakeback considerations, particularly on Stars - now that's much, much less of an issue and it's far better to concentrate on fewer tables where you have an edge rather than shoving on extra tables where you may at best be break even just for "volume", playing an extra four tables where you're -0.5bb/100 doesn't help you if you lose 1bb/100 on two you were initially playing. But hey, volume, right?

While 30 tables was only a SNG thing and the vast majority of 24 tabling cash game players were in fact nits, I agree with the gist of your post. Especially for fullring games. You don’t need to be a nit to play 12 tables, but your preflop strategy has to be pretty static.

But then again, you don’t learn a single thing that way except for clicking buttons at a very fast pace. That might be OK if you play midstakes and make a decent amount of money but if you play microstakes, the main goal should be to improve your game and that doesn’t happen with masstabling. The equivalent would be somebody at McDonalds being concerned about getting faster at flipping burgers instead of getting the promotion to not having to stand at the grill anymore.

It should be fairly obvious that the more tables you play, the lower will be your win rate per table. However, your total profit may increase until some point when it starts to decline. If you define a table effectiveness factor TEF to be the percentage of retained win rate per additional table (TEF<100%), then

Total profit for n tables = W1*n*TEF^(n-1), where W1 is your win rate playing only 1 table.

This is described more fully in the following thread:

Thank you all for your feedback. I do get bored playing one or two cash tables, so I'll try one cash game along with an SNG or MTT and see how that goes.

With no HUD... I would assume you would be busy taking copious notes.....or should be.

The usual top scores online 6-max cash up to 200 are 4 to 8 bb/100 at NLH and double that at PLO and one factor making the difference is optimal play (don't nit it) and the other is the number of tables.

With a hud I find 6-8 tables of 6 max plo is reasonable.
