How does this effect game play? I’ve been mostly playing 1/2 or 1/3 and I was tired of people raising to only 4 or 6... so I made my standard raise either 10 or 15 depending on the game... is that a bad start? I only do this for the top 30% of my opening range

So you raise bigger depending on hand strength? You say the top 30% of your starting hand range? So if you open 20% of hands you only bigger with the top 30% of this range?

IN many live environments, a raise to $10 is standard and will be something where it is not uncommon to then get four or five callers. If your intent in raising is to build a pot, then you figure out where the threshold is that will continue to get your callers. However, if you are seeking to isolate to no more than one or two others to the flop, then you may find that $15-20 (or more) will be required.

However, you ALSO need to be aware that some of the players at the table might actually pay enough attention if you are the only one who is doing this and, as a result, you will see them eventually come around to ONLY calling you with THEIR premium hands.

What you do NOT want to do is be in a position of giving off a bet-pattern tell.

That’s actually the absolute perfect outcome. You make it $20 and get calls from players 1-4 if they have a hand they like and only get calls from players 6-9 if they have a premium hand. Now when you get to the flop, you already know if there’s at least one player with a premium preflop hand involved and can act accordingly.

Whenever you are in a game where you can get weak players to call large raises with questionable hands and observant players to only call when they are strong, without 3betting you, you are in an extremely profitable environment.

5x on rec tables is standard
When I was playing £1/2 on a rec heavy table I'd open for £15+
Rec don't care about your sizing (unless you make it 20x preflop or so)
Regs however will adjust to you by tightening up so be aware of their 3bets and flat calls.
Also 5x on a reg heavy table is stupid so be careful with table selection.
