it seems live cash is where if your good enough is where you can make a living from playing poker. I'm going to play some online poker to practice starting at 2nl. should i play zoom or regular 9 max? if you play live you don't move tables all the time like in zoom.
should be called sevenfour

Why not play a bit of both and see which you prefer?

I don't play zoom so keep that in mind with my answer.
I would play regular 9-max if just getting started to get yourself ready for normal full table play. Zoom will be nittier from what I have read.
Or, try both as sixfour suggested and see which you like more.

If you are playing to get better at live low stakes I'd go with regular ring games. This will allow you to practice building reads and adjusting to opponents strategies/exploiting their tendencies which is what Is more relevant to live poker.

Live and online play very different. Online games tend to be much tighter and have much smaller edges, even at the micro stakes. While I haven't played online since black friday, the games were much more TAG infested. You were pushing much smaller edges, but you could make it up with high volume. In general if you can beat 2nl and 5nl, you can probably do OK at 1/2 live if you make the right adjustments. Live tends to be a lot wilder and looser, and you will play a lot more big multiway pots that you just won't see online even at the smaller levels.
