Ok so I'm trying (and failing) to beat 2NL however this is proving very difficult as the bottom line is.... IM A STUPID FISH.

An example on where I punt is the hand below ! (Im Jade Wheel)

$0.05/$0.10 Blinds No Limit Holdem - ***

Total number of players : 6

Seat 4: JadeWheel18 ( $7.78 ) -> Im the SB (attempt a raise to steal the blind w/ definitely the bottom of my range)

1) JadeWheel18 raises [$0.25]
2) kapable71 calls [$0.20]

** Dealing flop ** [ 8d, Jh, Jd ]

JadeWheel18 checks -> I check it back as I understand can be in my opponents range

kapable71 checks -> SURELLLYYY HE'S NOT TRAPPING AT 2NL
** Dealing turn ** [ Js ]
JadeWheel18 bets [$0.60] -> Slight overbet
kapable71 raises [$1.20] -> Now im thinking hmm is he raising with an 8 as thats possible so worse comes to worse we are chopping.

JadeWheel18 calls [$0.60] -> So i call

** Dealing river ** [ 7c ] -> BRICK

JadeWheel18 bets [$1.50]-> I should of really checked here
kapable71 raises [$3] -> He raises

JadeWheel18 calls [$1.50] -> I CALL
** Summary **
kapable71 shows [ Jc, Ah ] -> NUTS
JadeWheel18 shows [ Kh, 8c ] -> IDIOT
kapable71 collected [ $8.55 ]

SO... where did I go wrong ?

1) You called 0.05/.10 2NL

2) You donked (River) into a Player who called a raise PF and c/r Turn

3) You called off a min-click in a spot where your opponent is pretty sure you're calling off the way the action went down

4) Assumed that a Player with the virtual nuts would not check and allow an opponent to 'catch up' .. Not everyone is afraid of their opponent sucking out on them now and then ... GL

ooh boy
  • preflop is fine, folding is ok too
  • you don't know whether you're betting the turn for value or as a bluff and the sizing reflects that
  • logic for calling turn check raise is bad, you're narrowing his range to chopping and bluffs
  • you don't have a plan for river after your mistakes on the turn, hence the donk bet/call

Seems to me like you're clicking buttons and playing the hand without any real logic or plan at all

Turn is obviously value. We have the best hand or are chopping like 95%+ of the time. IDK what best sizing is though. I don't mind a bigger overbet though. Turn call is good.

-----

Donk leading river is absolutely horrible. Bluffs will fold or raise, neither of which is good for us. Weaker FHs maybe call but can usually find a fold and probably wouldn't take this line much. Obviously quads will raise.

Just never donk bet as a beginner and your win-rate will improve.

If you are a beginner fish, don't play bad hands like K8. Just fold.

At this point he should be playing to practice applying new concepts he's learning, not playing to make money. He needs to learn to play wide ranges in the blind battles that come up fairly frequently in online 6max.

If the money he could potentially lose actually mattered my advice would be different.

we all start out as stupid fish welcome to the club. keep posting and reading and soon you will just be a small fish then maybe a break even fish.

if you devote yourself to it and have a mind that thinks logically you can actually make money from that point on if you have total self control. some of us have become rich and some have stayed where they started. some in the middle. good luck.
