0.5/1 ignition, all players unknown, i just sat at the table,
effective stacks $100

i raise with 99 UTG ($3), small blind 3 bet ($11), big blind called, fold?

what is the range i should compare if this is a fold or call?

I call with 99, think it's not close either.

More than 3:1 to call with position and also with the best position on the SB I can't wait to click the call button.

Are there no lower stakes on ignition though?

Call but be careful. You'r ahead of a significant part of villain's 3 bet range [AK, AQ], your getting a good price and you stand to win a massive pot if you hit a set and villain has one of the premium pairs. You shouldn't be stacking off on a low flop with 99s as an overpair here.

Call for the reasons stated above, but also (and these days of critical importance) what are you doing with the rest of your range?

readless, I want to defend around 50% of my range (others will differ, depends on several factors)

IP my defensive freq errs towards calling
OOP my defensive freq errs towards 4betting

My utg range is already tight, so if I want a polarised range (which readless I probably will), I want value hands AK, QQ+, bluffs to balance the value (I go for hands with good equity when called plus blockers, like A3s), and a calling range. Givent hat these ranges are all so tight anyways, there aint' much you can put in a calling range (esp OOP)...99 is pretty much bang in the middle of it (JJ-77 oop, same plus some good flopping hands IP).

As ranges get wider (like btn v sb 3bet) 99 creeps into my 4bet/5bet jam range (again, readless)

And all only valid 100bb eff stack and standard (not too big, too small) 3bet/4bet sizings.

Shockingly, when SB makes it more than pot, and BB flats (with a tight range that has you crushed), Snowie says you need QQ/AKs+ to continue.
Everyone (including me) calls with 99 in this spot though. If one of the villains will dump 100bb with AK on K92, then go for it. (100NL on Ignition is pretty soft, innit?) You might have to treat it as a pure set-mine and fold to a single bet on 8xx though.

Range-wise, SB has something like TT+,ATs+,A5s-A4s,KQs,AKo
BB flats something like QQ-TT,AQs,AKo (maybe wider if he's very bad).
Against those two ranges, 99 has less than 25% equity, and the pot odds require 24.2%, so it's very close to breakeven. Positional advantage is worth a couple of percent of equity, but the rake steals it back, so it's not as clear as I would have expected.
