Howto | Getting Popopop to work

Just a little PSA for people who might be having a problem with Popopop's Universal Replayer.

Had a lot of problems myself, found some threads indicating it was an ANSII/encoding issue, found my way through it. This is just here in case anyone has the good common sense to use the search feature if they too are having a problem. =)

1) If necessary, export the hand histories you want to review using PT3/HEM/FT's beta tool/whatever.

2) Start Popopop UR. You should see an empty table.

3) File > Convert History. The converter pops up, the radio button for "file" should already be selected. If not, select it.

4) Click the "Browse" button to the right of the file field. Locate your session/tournament folder and select the file. Click "open." You should now see the full path to the file in the field.

5) Toward the bottom you should see "folder". This is where the output will be stored. It's probably already set to C:\[INSTALL LOCATION]\PopopopPlayer\IMPORTED. I'd leave this alone.

6) In the field titled "file name," type in the name for the output file. I use the date most of the time, so something like 2010-05-14a or whatever. You can leave off a file extension because the converter will later add the .xml extension.

7) From the Conversion section, there's a "Poker Room" dropdown. Set this to whatever site created the original output file.

8) Click "CONVERT." You *should* see "xxx hands successfully parsed." You should also see the Save button become un-greyed and clickable.

9) You now have two options: Click "Save" to save the file or click "Launch" to open Popopop with the converted file already loaded.

Hopefully this helps. I did not have to convert anything from ANSII to UNICODE or from UNICODE to ANSII or from anything to anything else.

Yeah.

Open a command-line window on your machine (I'm assuming it's windows). On XP it's Start > Run then type in "cmd" and hit enter. On Vista and 7, not so sure. Google for how to open the command interface in google for your given OS.

In that window type in:

c:\path> java -version

(at least I think that's the command, obv. leave out the c:\path> part, just type in "java -version")

If you get back something like a version number, you might need to update. Go here.

If you get something that's more like "wtf?", you'll need to install Java.

Java. If it's not happening automatically you might try right-clicking, clicking on "open with..." but I'm not sure where to find the java executable. =/

And stop ending your sentences with prepositions...
