I am a good aggressive players at least among the group of players and friends I play with. I have a steady positive win rate. But I feel often that win rate is compromised due to me calling off some hands and losing big pots. Like I win 50 small-medium hands and lose 5 big hands to bring down my win rate. Maybe my opponents have figured it out and they dont bluff as often. At the same time I don’t want to be exploited and often call down hands when I have QQ with A on board, or top pair top kicker when the other guy seems to represent a 2 pair, etc. I know it’s highly situational dependent. But is there some process I can follow that will stop me, or make me pause before calling down big pots?

Unless you play with an atypical bunch, players bluff less frequently than we think they do. Give them credit for a hand if the are attacking you. You might fold the winner sometimes, but it will cost you less in the long run if you give them more credit for making hands.

People who can't be bluffed are called fish. Do you want to be a fish OP?

My own experience playing live poker is that when people bet like they have it over 2+ streets, they usually have it. That's a general population read but generally folding > "calling because I may get exploited".

Obviously change gears when you have an individual read.

I don’t want to be a fish, but may be I sort of am. I do push them around quite a bit by firing c bets, firing two streets, check raising them, and get respect. But calling their bets is a big leak, which I cannot seem to fix. I have had some wins in which I called down the villain with A high, lower pair, etc., to surprise them. But now its gone to the point where I seem to call everything.
I am wondering if there is some mental discipline or tactic you can use to just find a fold. Often I convince myself that “I just have to win this x% of the time, so I have to call”, or something like that even though my gut feel is telling me otherwise.

Open up a poker app and sit down at a couple tables of NL25 or whatever and fold every hand. Play your normal preflop game, but fold everything postflop. Overpairs, sets, straights, draws, air - everything - for an hour.

Just on the Call buttons left theres the "Fold", while next to it on the right there is the "Raise" one - clicking them more often would equally help.

Are you putting your opponents on a range but being overgenerous assigning bluffs/worse value? Are you ranging opponents reasonably but deciding to go with your gut instead? Are you failing to range your opponents at all and just playing by feel?

It sounds like you're making hero calls and playing by emotion. I think you just need to practice slowing down in medium-large pots and think more about ranges. Your gut is stupid, don't listen to it. Put your opponent on a range and act confidently according to that range you've assigned.

Also remember that folding is part of a solid poker strategy which makes you harder to play against. Some hands have to go into your folding range. Think about which hands belong there. It's not your job to play poker police with the bottom of your range.

Yeah I'd say plan a hand and decide what you are prepared to continue with and what you are OK to fold.

Like if you open KQo from MP and get called by BTN and BB, you may not want to continue without an OESD or top pair or minimum something like 2 overs, gutter and backdoor, in typical sticky LLSNL games.

If you flop like 679 two tone, you should be check folding. If you flop AQ7 rainbow, you check, BTN bets and BB calls, just muck and move on with your life.

Then you should divide your continuing range into betting and checking, because if you just blast off every time you have it, that's pretty easy to exploit.

Against mr value heavy fold tptk and worse.

Against mr sometimes bluffs call with tptk and better

Against mr bluffs often call with middle sometimes weak pair and better

If you play fewer hands in general you won't get into as many iffy spots postflop. Like just stick with AQ+/TT+ for a month and see how you do.
