On your first day here on 2+2, welcome. You can learn a lot about the different types of poker and strategy to beat the game by reading threads here on 2+2. Other free (or inexpensive) avenues available to concentrate study would be books, videos, podcasts etc. There are also paid coaching sites that are available.

Your question can not be answered within any single thread.

One thing that can help you is to go to the main page of Beginners Questions, look toward the upper right for a Search This Forum tab. Click that tab and type is "beginner" or "new to poker" or any other question you may have. You will be directed to HUNDREDS of threads relevant to your questions.

Unfortunately 'proper' and poker don't always go together. You will see comments in some of the threads about playing ABC poker. This simply means playing 'the best' cards in a very straight forward manner to keep things simple. The long-term issue with this is that more experienced Players can exploit this playing style.

However it's probably best to keep things simple in the beginning and do your best to keep an open mind (and have fun) in the process of expanding your game as you become more comfortable.

If you know nothing about the game at all there are 'play/free' chips available in Apps and online. Use these to get used to the game flow but don't necessarily try to emulate much of the betting styles. Players with free chips don't tend to care about 'proper' playing tactics. (There are a lot of Players with real money that don't care either!!)

There is lots of information from previous threads here about game play. Use the search feature to find specific areas you have an interest in. GL

People always disparage starting with play chips, but I disagree.

If you can't beat the worst players, what hope do you have of beating better ones? You can also move up in stakes with play chips and face increasingly strong opponents.

For no risk, you can prove to yourself that at least you can beat bad players.
