NLHE thread

I remember when I first started my poker journey I learned silly "facts" static things to do and static things to no do.

Then I learned, nothing is really static in life or poker, its dynamic at least,

but some things back in the day did hold true when you filtered and did homework,

calling 3bets OOP ,
Turn raises being stronger than flop raises, river raises being stronger than turn raises etc.
Over calling in the sb,
Over calling in general without a good reason,

but as the game improved, or more so, the players the game went the other way.

People started 3betting more, and with junky hands, espicially Ace rag , ace rag suited. So once you had that read on someone you could start calling with Ace anything really once it was ahead of their kicker range, some people three bet top of folding range, so AJ becomes a flat vs those ranges etc etc etc

So were in 2017, I've been here since 2010,

What's the biggest and most important changes (OTHER THAN BLACK ****ING FRIDAY)

Just a loose and free chat on whats making some of the more profititble regs over the last year or two, to become "bad regs" of the now ?

I think that probably the biggest changes in the last few days have been the declining c-bet frequencies, and the wider range of bet-sizes. The game is more complicated now, because ranges are much wider on the turn. Everyone used to be so fit-or-fold that you could just bet-fold your way to a 5bb/100 winrate.

Yeah, fit or fold seems to be gone, yet what seemed like thin value back in the day seems more solid these days,

Open with XX, called by sb

Flop Q92,

check behind , J turn

Check behind blank river

fire river called super wide

simple off top head examlpe, but theres more of them.

Also, backdoor stuff is included finally, I remember having discussions years ago and people wouldnt even think about the added equity to bluff with such, now its standard.

I think you are seeing a lot more thin value vs thin value play nowadays. The older players (mid forties, been playing for fifteen years), like myself, who tend to play a bit more polarized, with a strong bias towards value over bluffing, end up playing too few hands, and are not able to extract max value, where as newer players are going all the way to the river, winning with middle pair over ace high four rounds of betting (caveat-I play mostly MTT).
