How much happier (and profitable) could you have been with proper bankroll management?

The great and the best have always said it,

5% for Pro's and 10% for REC's , on the table for one simple reason, variance, or what we mortals call luck.... damn you Axe on the river.....

Doesn't sound complicated, does it, but then so many decide, l'm crushing it , only for 29 minutes later to look at 0.00 balance because of that ******g ace on the river...
Yes we are guilty to the extent that we are at the edge of giving up.... Only to start again with the above rule....
How many times for we have to be hit with a bat before we finally decide that sticking to the rule , in the long run Will Actually make the game more enjoyable?
Your sob stories and advice below please.

This will either be the longest, or shortest thread in history....

Many of us would be happier without all-caps thread titles. Thanks.

Re: How much happier (and profitable) could you have been with proper bankroll management?

A large percentage of high stakes players wouldn’t have ever gotten there if they followed strict bankroll management guidelines they read about on the forums.

Besides that, the vast majority of students that asked me BRM questions over the years, didn’t even understand the concept. Bankroll management is there to minimize the “risk of ruin” aka “going broke”. That means getting up from the table and starting to wonder how to be able to buy dinner. That does not mean “I lost the last $50 in my PokerStars account, off to bed gotta work tomorrow morning, might deposit another $50 on the weekend”.

Unless you are a professional player who needs to cash out the equivalent of a paycheck every month or are a gambling addict, you probably don’t even have a bankroll. You have an arbitrary amount of money in your poker account that gets funded by winning at the tables or re-depositing from your discretionary income.

The notion that you can’t play in the $109 Sunday Million because you only have $500 in your account is absurd if you could just deposit $10k if you wanted to. If you think your EV in a $100+9 tournament is $80, you basically pay $29 for your evening entertainment. That might be cheaper than going out for a couple beers.
