How to kill time while grinding? How to kill time while grinding?

03-20-2017 , 01:18 PM
I'm looking for something to kill my time while grinding. I play on a network which allows just 5 tables and I'm fine with that. I'd love a game or something to play on my other screen to get through the day. A game that doesn't require 100% focus is obv necessary. Throughout the last years I've listened to music, watched series, played wow on occasion, played some star wars mmorpg, played bloons TD (love that ****) etc while grinding. I don't really play games per ce, as nothing will match wow during it's glory days for me (BC). But I'm open for anything.

What do you guys do? Any tips?

(not sure where on the forum to post this)

Music, yes. Movie or TV series, maybe. Another game, hell no. I can't think of any game that wouldn't be eating up too much of my attention, gotta be -EV...

Play the 5 tables better.

Focused play: from offline studying, maybe you found you weren't 3! enough from the blinds. Or Cbet too much/too little.

Or maybe you are already at the top of your game but still playing stakes below skillz because of bankroll. Cheers, if you are already the best.

Yeah I'm quite comfortable making a living at were I am. Due to laziness and roll I dont play higher. I'm willing to spend 1bb/100 if I found something to do on the side that stimulates me. I'm not here to improve my game/find new love for poker. I just want to pay my bills and get through the grind

What stakes do you play and what's your win rate?

Don't see why decent players shouldn't ask simple questions here...seems appropriate to me? Not sure about the hostility in this thread.

That said, hard to come up with too many recs. I might suggest something like another card game (Hearthstone/Eternal/Gwent/Shadowverse/??) or a game like chess where you can take plenty of time between moves (play correspondence chess with a multi-hour or multi-day clock).

Pay attention to the tables. I don't believe that you don't want better results and more money. That isn't how poker players think. Giving your full attention to the tables and taking player notes can only result in improvement.

You should read the OP's blog on 2+2 for some insight, Mav93.

I have never given chess a real chance, maybe I should. What are the other card games even? (I know hearthstone, but it's not for me) Thanks for the tips!

Well, I'm not interested in poker anymore and no - I don't think I either want or can find the spark again. I just use it as a means to make money, I don't enjoy it enough to stay focused and try to play "better".

I watch a lot of tv shows/anime myself. Sometimes have twitch going of other people playing. Also play Runescape sometimes, which is like wow.

Probably not your cup of tea, but maybe try another poker game for trivial stakes on the side?

The amount of times I have missed information playing Stud games about my opponents and the dead cards because I was taking a dump or playing silly video games or watching YouTube on the side or posting here... it's a lot of times.

And had I had that information I often would have changed my decisions in the hand.

It really is often the difference between winning and losing.

Pay attention and take notes, forget the distractions. Be hyper focused on the game or don't play.

Yeah, watching stuff does the trick, but can sometimes be hard as I have the tendency not to wanna miss anything in the story. And I need to have at least some focus on the poker as well And haha wow - does runescape stil exist? Gotta check it out!

based on your responses you are obviously a superstud stone cold killer and could probably do bout 350 different things whilest crushing the on line poker. Why dont you come up with a list yourself since you are so ossum and unwilling to heed what others have to say. Cuz this thread sure seems like a brag thread to me

Errrrrr it's relevant if this was true you should be answering questions not asking them o.0 or hell paying a team of people to answer them for you while you bathe in money

Wow, this thread really took the wrong turn. All I wondered was if anyone had some tips on what to do to get the time moving while grinding poker - or anything else for that matter. I figured that 2+2 should have people who are in the same scenario as me.

(And I'm not out here to cause jealousy. I'm not a super poker player by any means, but the site I play on allows me to auto-pilot and still win money, so there's that)

Hope you understand why..... most everyone in the Beginner's Question area are struggling to remember the outs for a flopped four flush. You are distinctly above that level. As you are asking a strategy question about playing poker (How do I grind better?) .....perhaps one of the strategy sections of 2+2 would be a more helpful resource. Registered in 2013 I would have expected you to already have found these areas.

Small Stakes limit

Small Stakes NL 6Max

Small Stakes NL Full Ring

Single Table Tourney

Heads Up Spin and Gos

Mid Stakes Multi Table Tourney

or Psychology or Theory areas ........?

couchtuner is a great website for tv shows.

I watch anime on a variety of different sites, but usually play fewer tables since I read the subtitles.

Documentaries are particularly good because you can mostly just listen without having to watch.

Easy RPG like runescape you can do plenty of AFK tasks which can be fun.
