"average player"....so hopefully you are not a professional player.

Wife>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>poker . If you do not understand that concept, then you are at a crossroads.

Sounds like you need to take an extended break away from the game. Without any other details I would think six months at a minimum.

You say you can't stop playing. Seriously?!??? Take personal responsibility of your life. Grow a pair and STOP playing. Of COURSE you can stop playing.

The answer is simple, and you aren't going to like it. Stop gambling. Stop playing poker. you are playing for the wrong reasons. You are chasing the high of winning to try and make yourself wwhole, and when you lose, you chase that high even harder.

Walk away before you lose everything. You have to play for the right reasons. Chasing losses by committing more than you can is a sure sign you are playing for the wrong reasons.

Stop cold turkey, and see how it goes from there.

I was often told that people like us can't change and for a long time I wasn't able to prove them wrong.

You need to start asking the right questions if you want to change.

You need to ask questions that will provide you with an opportunity to change who you are.

Questions like am I a decent human being? Being honest you'll probably say nope I suck at being a decent human being.

How about asking yourself do I cause harm and being honest you'll probably think to yourself damn I need to embrace the principle of do no harm to myself or others.

Probably if you became philosophical about yourself you would eventually come to the conclusion that you are trapped in a causality loop of your own making.

I stopped being trapped in causality loops of my own making by striving to become a better version of myself.

All it takes is a leap of faith and taking ownership of blatantly obvious life principles towards becoming a decent human being.

I know that decent human beings can apply game theory to life and maybe one day you'll get there and find yourself nodding in agreement.

Not that I live a GTO life, I still suck at a lot of things, but my journey is heading towards a GTO life and it's the same for the people around me. We have all become decent people who care deeply about each other.

There is a saying, one man can move a mountain and for me it's a truism, I did it.

If you're serious, go and get therapy. Poker should be a fun escape or a rewarding hobby, it's not something to piss away your marriage over. You're saying that you are a degenerate gambler, you should play with poker in the same way that a heroin addict plays with drugs...not at all.

I think you already know that you need to quit the game completely, and your post is basically a "cry for help". I'm not qualified to give you that help, and each person in a similar predicament responds differently to advice, so it could be a mistake to say "do this" or "do that". Gambler's Anonymous might be able to help you if you lack the willpower to quit on your own. Telling your friends and relatives that you need help might be advisable too. Nothing bad can come out of quitting. You can not only make your wife's life better. You can improve your own.
