I am currently studying and trying to understand how to gradually reduce a Hand Range. I play small stakes poker and I am beginning to think at this level it is almost impossible, as too often players do strange things.

In one recent game I was dealt AQs in the big blind Play folded to the SB who open raised. I 3 bet and the Villain 4 bet which I called.

The Flop was 10 6 9 Rainbow. The Villain checked and I raised and was called.

Because of the aggressive action pre flop, I assumed to remove Pairs of 10s 9s and 6s from the range as I would have expected another raise or Check/Raise with that. I Bluff raised and was called.

The Turn was the As, and the Villain raised considerably. I read this as the Ace being a good card for him as well as improving my hand. This enforced my thinking that removing the previous pairs was the right choice and that Aces or Ace King are my biggest threat.

However Villain was holding a pair of 9s. If anything the Ace has weakened his hand Did I miss something here.

You need some tracking software, so you can print out hands.

Then, post over in https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/6...-stakes-pl-nl/ with hand.

I have Poker Tracker 4, and import hands from ignition.

When villain puts in a raise that makes us commit 25% of our stack preflop we should either fold or shove.

Fair point, but I felt that folding AQs was premature, against what could be a pair of Jacks or lower. There was no reason to believe the Villain was holding Aces or Kings. I also felt it not strong enough to shove against what could be Aces of Kings.

That is not the question. The question is to do with hand ranges. I am asking what I did wrong in discounting 9s from his range. With his preflop betting, I believed I was up against a pair or Ace/King at least, but had not discounted other Suited Broadways. When he checked and called my bluff raise on the turn, I decided he did not have 10s 9s or 6s. That was my error. I am asking others who have mastered hand ranges, would they have thought the same, and if not, what did I overlook.
