I enjoy live as there's banter on the tables the chips getting messed about with sounds great and just the general atomashohere of live play I enjoy more, also it seems to take less time to complete a live tourney than online.

Online however has bigger rewards for less money and more hands can be played along with multi tables, it's just late reg can take a while to close and only then do players start dropping out the tourney for you to even get a smell of the money.

It's so easy to try bluff more online and semi bluff with draws etc.

What does everyone else prefer? I want to see your answers to see if I can decide on what format to focus my play on.

Thanks

Oli

I don't think that it is an either or proposition. Unless you live by a casino that runs tournaments regularly then live is probably not a viable option for you until you have a large bankroll because travel and hotel cost would be too much.

Why does it matter to you what other people prefer?
I prefer playing online, and cash games are my favourite format for a number of reasons, but if my personal circumstances were slightly different, I might have chosen to be a live tourney grinder, or a Friday-night homegame player. Unless financial reasons are the main driving force for you, I'd recommend doing whatever you find the most rewarding in terms of fun/entertainment. You don't have to restrict yourself to one format/lifestyle though.

It's not that I'm trying to follow what other people prefer, if like to get some info from them on what they enjoy most about live or online, I have played both and prefer live however online can be more rewarding. I'm just curious to see what people find best for them and specifically why

As a professional gambooler I much prefer online. It is sterile (meaning I do not have to see all of the mopes in the poker room). I can crank out big volume in short time. I can do it from anywhere. Most of my buddies with on line backgrounds feel the same.

With live poker I have to deal with the energy suck that is the casino environment (most people are losing and they are not happy about it). I have to commute and wait to get seated. I must block out large chunks of time to play.

Online i can roll out of the rack sit down at my station crank out a couple of thousand hands go recreate for a while then play another session - cant really do that live and be efficient

That tells me you haven't played much live, because

What is even worse is if their spouse is there. Until you've seen a spouse of a player in tears begging their husband to stop playing because they're going to lose the rent money, you haven't even begun to experience the soul suck of live poker.

That said, I mostly play live. It is just that when things are unpleasant, I can just leave no matter how juicy the game, unlike Squid Face.

I've played a lot of live poker and I agree with OP. The poker tables I play at are filled with interesting people and a lot of diversity, not degenerates. Sure, there are the occasional scummy degenerate losers, but they are outliers. Most of the people are not there blowing the rent money, or at least you can't easily tell.

If I could play online, I would play on weekdays, and play live on the weekends when there are more recs, since you like both. Live generally has less recs on weekdays, therefore, a good amount of regs on weekdays.

I do have weekends off in my job however during the week i don't get home until 7pm and by then I'm quite tired mentally as I deal with people all day haha.. It's worth a think to do both at different times just if I have the energy in The week to do online.. live wouldnt be a problem on the weekend though
