Calling vs Raising the Nuts to Induce Action Calling vs Raising the Nuts to Induce Action

I played an interesting hand at a cash game the other day, that I’ve been thinking about. I played the hand the exact ABC expected way and got the exact ABC expected results.

I’m wondering if it wasn’t an opportunity for an unconventional move or thinking “outside the box.”

I’m an ABC nit. The two other players were both LAG’s who didn’t like each other and who had been in an hour long pissing contest, calling $100 river bets with bottom pair no kicker to raising 10x pre-flop with 5/8 off. Neither believed any action the other made was actually based on card strength.

I have the A♣️K♣️ and the river brings the third club on an unpaired board. I have the stone cold nuts. The action had been pre-flop raise, $20 c-bet and checked turn. I make an $80 value bet hoping to get calls from both donk’s when much to my surprise (yipeeeee), I see LAG#1 counting out raising chips. He raises to $200 when much to my (WTF!) surprise, LAG#2 whips out his dick on the pissing match and re-raises to $400. It was a deep table and all of us started with over a grand. I of course do the expected and re-raise to $800 whereby both villains also do the expected and fold. LAG#1 said he rivered a straight and LAG#2 said he had a flush and “knew he beat” LAG#1.

Here’s where I wonder if an unconventional play could have resulted in more $. I know that these bets are against each other, neither has even a king high flush, and as the Q♣️ was on the board the most either would have was the J flush. Against a nit, neither was ever going to call for $800.....EVER.

What do people think about just calling the $400 in hopes that LAG#1 calls for an additional $200? It’s totally unconventional but there was never going to be another $ in that pot once I came over top.

Any other moves?

That's not the expected if this means you still had chips in front of you after that raise.

Instead of just calling in the hopes of getting like an extra 1/7th pot, you can bluff here with the ace of clubs literally every single time. If your reaction is "well then they call", then you're wrong in one of the two because they can't both call your bluffs and fold to the nuts.

I don't advice bluffing much in live games, but if you have a problem of getting called and people are actually making laydowns against you, start bluffing them until they adjust. Especially if you have cards in your hand that makes it impossible or hard for them to have the nuts, like in this instance. If you had AcKd they never call when you shove right? That's $600 in profit right there without ever seeing a showdown.

It's actually so inside the box that you can't see the boundaries of the box within reach. You're solving a problem that shouldn't exist.
