Calculating live rake paid? Calculating live rake paid?

10% rake up to 4$ and 1$jackpot drop. Pots under 10$ are not raked.

Is there a way to account for the pots that never occur or never get to max drop?

I'm trying to determine and estimate of how much rake I have paid so I can apply it to my result....

Why would you want to apply that number to your result? Rake is a part of the game you play, same as losing AA to KK.

I know there are people that say "I beat the game for XX pre-rake" or "I would be a winner if it wasn't for the rake!" but that's like saying "My salary would be really good if I didn't have to pay taxes on it".

That said, I you want to see how much rake you specifically paid, count the pots you won and how much rake you paid for each one. There's no other way to do it.

This makes sense... thank you.

Reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out how my result is thus far. I'm a 1-2 player and and trying to really apply myself and improve my game. My graph is 280 hours and I'm down around 2600$. Early on I made some horrible mistakes that I've corrected and feel like I'm a much better player than I was. I'm not sure how "normal" or bad my result is so far.

Your example makes sense as I should just accept the rake as the tax paid.

Your results are....you are down $2600. To "know" if you beat the game look at your bottom line. Subtracting rake is a flawed concept.

((By law in USA and all others I believe, you can not deduct rake as an expense. So knowing its value doesn't change the $2600 number.))

Yeah I get that now. I'm talking from more of where my results fall on the curve. I suspect being down 2600$ in 280 hours is well within "normal" but since I'm fairly new I'm still unsure how I'm doing as a player. I'm sure mistakes have something to do with it... not going to delude myself.

What's size of a sample can one draw better conclusions on?

If you're down $2.6k after 2800 hands, that's 1300BB over ~8400 hands. That's around 15.5BB/100 which honestly is a lot at 1/2. But of course the sample size isn't significant yet and you say you've improved.

If you plug those numbers into a variance simulator and use a standard deviation of 70, the upper boundary of a 95% confidence intervall is still slightly in the negative and the probability of you being a losing player is 98%.

Ok cool. Yes I have certainly improved. The first 100-150 hours is where many more mistakes were made. I'll just keep working on my game. Thanks the the help.
