Blah cooler! What did I mess up if anything. Blah cooler! What did I mess up if anything.

So I'm playing 2/5nl, n I've been pretty card dead for 3 orbits. Took down a checked down pot with k7s a couple hands ago.

Then I wake up with QQ in the BB. Utg+2 opens to 20, The button calls. I 3bet to 70. Plyr 1 calls, button calls.

Flop 743 rainbow

I bet 100, plyr1 folds, the button shoves n he's got me covered. My stack is about 600, I head into the tank.

This dude has been playing 50% of hands, 3betting, shoving with lots of stuff. Showing down with 42 n such. He's on the button, and flatted my 3bet. So I'm def not thinking kk or aa. Maybe he has 56 or flopped a set, but I feel like most people would've folded all that preflop.

I call

Turn 7 river 5.

He shows 86off!!! Wtf! Rivered the straight!

How do you call the 3b preflop of somebody who has only played 1 hand in 3 orbits with 86off..

So ya I win with that call 7/8 times, maybe my flop bet was too small.. but damn.

Would you play this different?

???

If you flopped a set you would have won the hand.

As played you got someone to get it in with a gutshot not sure if FD also but yea. You played it well. I think you're being a little too results oriented. He put the money in bad and that should be good enough for you.

If your bankroll can't handle a fluctuation like that and it's really upsetting to lose that pot, maybe consider nitting it up and set mining all night

Nah the roll will be alright. I know he got it in bad, he had 4 outs. He definitely didn't want me to call, but got there anyway. Just kinda like to post my hands where I took big losses to get some input.

I think you played it fine! You analysed the situation, and you were obviously aware based on his previous actions that this guy was just off his rocker. 100% right to call. If you didn't call in that spot you would be hurting yourself in the long run. Most of the time, this is the best scenario you can get yourself into.

He got his money in with a gutshot, and 4 outs to make the winning hand, and he got there this time.

That's the brutal part about poker, you can play perfect, get your money in with the best hand, and still loose in the short term. I've discovered that in order to not go completely insane by playing poker, you have to change your perspective. You have to view what happend on that table as a BIG victory for you personally, even though you lost money. Do not let it upset you, but take solace in the fact that you made the best decision.
That's what poker is all about, the player who makes the best decisions wins (in the end).

Celebrate every good decision you make (even if you loose the pot!), and if you get the money in when you're in the red, that's where you should look to improve. Try to seperate associating money with poker, and focus primarily on making the best decisions (and if you dont know what they are, try to find out).
