Building a bankroll in the micros can become a depressing grind. Playing the game you enjoy can help through it. For me, i enjoy big guarantees in mtt, and soft cash games.
Probably tournaments nowadays tbh. Ultimately playing cash will make u a better player but I'm not sure its the best way to build a roll from the bottom.
I've gone from $50 to well into 4figures on two separate occasions by playing cash, but there were significantly more fish the first time I did it back in 2013 or whenever.
For instance, 10NL was a piece of piss back then. You could get a big winrate by just table selecting to find Maniacs & 80/5 stations donating all over the place. The skill jump to 25NL & 50NL was a big one - when PokertableRatings was still available I used to search regs, & I saw so many winning 10NL regs who had gotten run over taking shots. Now, the difference seems closer because 10NL has gotten tougher.
If u have the time to play tournaments, then do that. I wish I'd played them when I started at $50. Obviously there's a lot more variance, but the opposition is just so much easier, & one big score completely changes your roll. And if you play the smaller fields of only several hundred people, big scores arent *that* hard to come by if you can put in the hours & grind them.
