working out how often villian will fold? working out how often villian will fold?

if we are wanting to 3 bet villain to take down the pot pre flop how do we work out how often villain will fold to a 3bet? if we still have players behind us how do we factor that in to the calculation too to work out whether our 3bet will show a immediate profit preflop?

lets say villian is opening with 30% of hands. how do we work out villian will fold 70% of those hands? should villian even fold 70% of the hands against a unknown?

if he plays 10% of hands he opened with we will be showing a loss.

is there a standard range we should have and villian should somehow know what our range is? then villian should know his equity against our range and fold his bottom % of hands? we should give Villian a standard range (until we know)

another question is whats a standard 3betting range from the button against a unknown mp open with sb and bb still to act behind us? whats a standard mp open against unknowns behind mp?

It's all about study away from the table, and in game estimation. The important calculation is the one that compares (ev call) to (ev raise)

equilab is a free download and counts combos for you. I would only fold 70% of my opening range vs (a large 3 bet) or (a tight opponent).

Most definitely, except vs very large 3 bets.

Yes there are standard ranges, which some players stick to, but some players will either tighten up or loosen up depending on game texture(tight opponents = raise more hands; loose opponents = tighten up).

I'd 3 bet on the button vs unknown utg at 6 max with this range if full stacks are in play: JJ+, AQs+, AKo, A5s.

standard open utg 6 max imo: 66+, AJo+, A2s+, KQo, K9s+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s. This is what I expect good players to show up with vs unknowns.

My 3-betting range for BTNvUTG is a bit different to Bob's.

I go with QQ+, AK, ATs, A5-A2s, KQs/KQo, 65s, 54s, which is 6% and is kind of polarized, as I like flatting AQ and AJs, QJs and medium pairs.

You can't expect many players to fold often enough that your 3-bet is immediately profitable. All the hands you use gain EV from a mixture of fold equity (winning immediately) and post-flop hand equity/playability (i.e. winning post-flop).

When everyone thinks you're the biggest donk on the site(guilty), you cant really go nuts with 3 bets here.

I've been meaning run some filters on my database, actually. I don't think my light 3-bets vs UTG are working very well. (Not enough fold equity).

The Sklansky Group 3 vs. a normal UTG 6-max open is possibly a playable hand, just opting how to play it (cold call, 3-bet, fold). Vs. a tighter open, a tighter group.
