I have no idea about Australia, but it's pretty standard for tax laws not caring about if you obtained the money legally or illegally.

I can't tell you how the tax system operates in Greece.

In USA, you are required to list ALL of you earnings, legal or otherwise. The famous case of this is Al Capone, the Chicago gangster that ran liquor during the Prohibition. (Selling alcohol was illegal 1920-1933). They couldn't prove the brutal killings and other aspects of his "business". They put him in jail for tax evasion when it was proved he did not pay tax on his ill gotten gains. This same problem is faced by illegal drug sellers nowadays.

Without knowing the Greek legal system, most of us are going to be useless to you.

According to Google, Greece has an attorney/client privilege rule (the lawyer can't disclose what a client says to him even to the authorities with the exception of money laundering). I'd speak to a lawyer. Under-reporting income in Greece is a time honored tradition from what I've read, so I think your risks are low in any case.

First thing to know is whether one has to submit copies of bank statements with the tax forms in Greece...if not, then the taxing authority is unlikely to know about a single small deposit (and yes, in the grand scheme, it IS small since the government is far more concerned with larger sums).

In the States, a CHECK that was $10K does not trigger any manner of currency transaction reports to be prepared. If I walk up with $10K in cash, then it is a different story. But even there, the deposit does not necessarily mean it was reportable income. There are actually times where someone might just be moving funds between accounts or even making a deposit back into an account of funds from earlier deposits...

The best thing to do is spend some time discussing the matter with counsel or an accountant skilled/adept at foreign income and the tax implications.
