Am I missing out on value? Am I missing out on value?

I elected to call instead of going all in since I wanted to limit my loses against potential straights. But in hindsight, not a very good idea.

How do you guys handle these situations? The 6 is not the worst card for me but the opponent was a little steamy after I hero called him a while back.

Knowing his hand this a shove, but what would you guys do if you didn't know his hand? Is it ever correct to call like I did? Is there an argument to be made for calling over shoving?

Looking at my hand history I've done this a couple times before with sets, where I prefer calling over shoving on wet boards or semi-wet boards like this one

This has to be one of the lesser plays I made this week, but how aweful is it?

Read the Baluga theorem and realise quite how bad a play your check-minraise on the turn was. As played jam the river

How interesting, perhaps that's why I found my own turn reraise bluffs to be effective so often. I never there was a whole theory on this, but it does make sense.

Also, thanks for making me realize I played the hand like crap. Time to call it quits for today.

If you can't stack top two pair there something went wrong. Neither of you ever has a straight here so you have the effective nuts. You lost whatever amount button had left after the river call.

I feel pretty bad about it now. This is why I have been posting so frequently on this subforum though and there is gradual improvement

My standard line for this spot is to check-jam the turn and rub money on my titties. With top set, it is incredibly profitable to check-call flop, check-jam turn, and there's nothing villain can do about it. No matter what he has, he loses if he folds and he loses (more) if he calls.

Listen carefully. The money you save by playing cautiously when you lose with your flopped set will never come close to making up for the money you fail to win when your cautiously played flopped set holds up.

To repeat the old saying "when you flop a set and lose the hand, if you don't lose a lot of money - you played it wrong."
