Any general tourney tips for a winning mid stakes cash game player? Haven't played a tourney in 10 years so not studied up on it, gonna fire in a live 1k soon.

Deeper stacks for all intents and purposes play the same as cash
When getting short get an idea of what spots to jam/rejam so you don't get blinded too low and lose all fold equity
Have a rough idea about the consequences of ICM, although in MTTs that generally only becomes an issue around the money bubble and right before/on the final table

Pretty solid comment above .. You may need to taper your cash style since you can't just reload at the table, you will be gone or have to re-enter which could take 1-2 hours before you can sit down again depending on the venue/event.

Typically you can just play your game until you drop below 30-40bb. The style of play and the size of the big stacks will help you determine what size stack you have to have in order to still open v open shove. It's pretty much a shove if you get below 15bb, but it's also 'correct' to shove AJ/ATs with 25bb in late position to avoid tough decisions should you miss the Flop and the Blinds have hit a pair with 9T or 44/55 has come along whereas they might fold PF for that many bb.

Have fun, tournaments can be fun. There's probably even less River bluffing than in a cash game and most certainly a much higher percentage of c/r spots are 'made' hands. The problem is that some Players may think that AJ on J46 is a 'made' hand whereas in cash is most likely a set. GL

Typical tournament players do two things:

1. Play very loose when stacks are large in relation to the blinds.
2. Tighten up when stacks get smaller in relation to the blinds.

Winning players do the exact opposite.

There are, of course exceptions, but you asked for general suggestions.

I mean this is reasonable when discussing a typical tournament player, but if OP is as good at cash as he claims to be then playing a bit looser to get into pots where he can outplay someone post early on is not a ridiculous thing to try and do

Fair point. The assumption would be that OP is better post flop and position aware. Obvious example would be to call a raise OTB with a wide range.

The other side of the equation is playing a 30-35bb stack when everyone is fairly short, where OP may not have the same experience from cash to realize how much his/her aggression needs to be ramped up .
