True, but the advice in the OP was not some outdated concept, but rather advice that remains sound today - preflop, do not open limp, and in general do not call bets, preferring for the most part 3 betting or folding to opens. That is still basic fundamental poker, and if someone loses a few tournaments while following that advice, it likely can be chalked up to the high variance of tournaments.
Now if StevieR meant that he is trying to cbet every or nearly every flop after raising pre, then you have a point. Players have adjusted and will typically float flops and raise cbets with wider ranges than they did in 2008. Cbet ranges should certainly be tightened relative to the essentially cbet your whole opening range that was the common play back then.
