Well, it's a fundamental concept of poker. There's no real way to progress past a novice level without learning the fundamentals, especially with the state of the game today. There's no way you can guess which draws are worth playing and so forth.

If you just play for fun over a couple beers and don't care, I wouldn't bother. But if you want to be at all competent, you're going to need to learn this and a lot more.

Maybe Sklansky is a little boring for a first book, try something else. Do you play cash games or tournaments mostly?

People overrate math.

Not really, most of the truly "world class" expert players that I have known have absolutely no clue about math or of these pot odds.

Answer in a nutshell for those without math skillz.

When your on a draw and the pot has a lot of money in it and players still remain in the hand call.

When your on a draw heads up and not much money has gone into the middle fold.

People like to complicate this stuff by making themselves sounds smart and to sell book.

Oh...in case you didnt know, I made both of my posts tongue in cheek because I suspect this post is a level.
