What to play in 2022? What to play in 2022?

Apologies for the rather open-ended question. I've been weighing up hitting the 'deposit' button again and giving online another go.

I last had money on PartyPoker where I was playing fast forward PLO and a little bit of NLH too. They got rid of the leaderboards and I wasn't getting much from the rakeback. Games started to dry up in the FastForward pools and I lost my interest. I did mess around with a few spins (some success in a tiny sample) but also aware of their variance.

I do have a 9-5 job so can't really spend my time sitting around playing MTTs for an entire day (as nice of an idea binking a 6 figure score is).

I've not historically been a HUD user and don't see myself spending hours in front of solvers studying spots. Maybe that's what the game requires these days and if i'm unwilling to do that then i'm the mark.

Based on the above and taking into account where the games are in 2022 - where would you channel your efforts if starting from almost scratch today?

Cash games
- PLO
- NLH
- Some other game?

Spins
Aware depending on the site you play that there are different formats for these.

SNG
- Hyper SNG
- HU SNG
- 1 table SNG

Next question would be: Where to play? - However the 'what' precedes that question.

Sounds like you just want to play for fun, so go play whatever is the most fun for you.

A valid point but i'd also aim to make some money in the process rather than make spewy bluffs for 'fun'.

Taking into account player pools, game selection, rake and rewards. Where is best to play cash games these days?

A few of my thoughts:

- Ipoker: I have a good rakeback deal there (used to be 40%). I've heard there's a lot of bots on the site. There wasn't a huge selection of PLO cash games and for some reason I ran terribly. Plenty of NLH games to pick from although there seems to be a lot of short stackers in games.

- Party: Didn't really get much from rakeback due to the amount I was raking and the fact Party clear your balances every week. Software was fairly pleasant. Not much PLO action and there's choice for NLH.

- Stars: Haven't played here in ages but understand the player rewards are poor. Obviously they have some of the highest traffic and game selection/variety. Not sure how the relative rake fares against competitors these days.

- GG: Site looks interesting and i'd consider playing there. I can't run it on my computer as i'm still a dinosaur on Windows 7

What if I told you you'd probably make the most money in the game you enjoy the most?

Stars is still great imo.
GG is great too.
Haven't played anywhere else.

To make money in any form of poker you're going to have to put in work. That's why the advice to play what you enjoy is good -- if you enjoy a certain type of poker, you're more likely to put time and effort into studying that form and so you're more likely to ultimately succeed.

In terms of softness it's definitely mtts first, followed by lowstakes spins (mid+ spins getting tough I think). PLO also an option. But there's still plenty of money to be made even in NL cash if you put the work in.
