A 3 3. you c betwith A9 get called by competent reg. turn T rainbow, This is a way ahead way behind situation. I value bet the turn here sometimes but the way I see it is that this is only 2 streets of value. You can check behind on turn and induce a river bluff or bet the river if he checks again.

Now change competent reg into LOOSE passive call centers then you can probably value bet 3 streets.

Basically it means a situation where you are either way ahead or way behind; ruling out the possibility that the other guy has a narrow second best type hand that you can get good value against. People generally talk about this concept as meaning that you shouldn't value bet in a particular situation, because only one of two things will happen: (1) you get called or raised by a hand that has you dominated (2) you will force a hand you have dominated to fold.

This is from HOC p.72,

imagine you have KK and your opponent ... Now the flop comes AT6 rainbow, so if he's got
an A, you're way behind, if if he don't, you are way ahead (except he has 66 etc, but we eliminate this), and the relative standing isn't likely to change.
So if you are in a situation where you believe you could equally well either be ahead or behind, you don't have much reason to get more money into the pot.
On thing to remember is the dry board, if this would be a draw heavy board the relativ standing could easily be changed, so this woulnd't be meant as way ahead/way behind anymore.

Hope this helps.

You have KK on an A38r board.

If he has an ace you're way behind as you're drawing dead to two outs.

If he doesn't, you're probably way ahead.

This situation generally occurs on a very dry board. There are no flush draws or straight draws so a pair, two pair or a set are the only real possible hands.

If you both have a pair, the best kicker is way ahead since the person way behind need three outs to pair the kicker. A set against a pair is way ahead. If you have top two pair, you are way ahead but if you have bottom two pair, it is much closer since you could get counterfeited.

You have to be careful betting in these situations. If you are far ahead, you may want to play slowly and just call down possible bluffs. If you are way behind, you may have an opportunity to steal the pot with a well timed bluff. If you are not sure, just keep the pot small.
