Why is it that there is so little activity on poker forums vs. ten years ago? Is it because people don't play as much anymore?

Or are people just lazier and don't feel like studying and learning more about the game?

Is there another more active forum with more members somewhere else?

People study more than ever before. But less people are willing to provide valuable advice for free.

Besides that, message boards are kinda dated and less and less people use them. 2+2 actually outlasted a lot of other poker forums.

2+2 is still the highest quality public poker forum. reddit r/poker is probably a bit more active overall, though the quality isn't as good. Most serious players have moved away from public forums and into private discord groups.

It's because a lot of the serious players stop using forums because they're full of trolls.

The first advice a lot of good players have given me is not to post hand reviews on 2+2 because you will get horrible replies.

So serious learning players stop posting here while learning, then never come back when they're good.

You have to consider everything you read on this forum, and the internet in general, very carefully. Is this actually true, is it useful, where does this info come from, who is this person telling me to do x, are they actually winning players, ...

Most of the advice you see around here is just:
- Do x
- Don't do y

People don't explain their reasoning, then this advice is picked up by others who blindly repeat it to other people, possibly in a different/wrong situation, which leads to bad advice.

Also just tons of (learning) players who overestimate their skill and throw around their opinions as if they're facts and get mad at anyone who disagrees with them.

You basically just can't trust anything that's posted here, which sucks.

Another thing is people judge others by how familiar they are.

Someone posting every day, replying to everything, will quickly be seen as someone who knows a lot.

Some of the worst trolls around these forums post daily and are very active, yet everything they post is horrible advice that is accepted by other players, just because they're so active.

I co-sign with this. And while reading this, I can think of a few members that just post non-sense to up there post number. If you been playing for a while, you can know who to take serious and who to ignore.

Agree with both Yeodan & iHooozay comments here.

As Yeodan said, not many good players stick around because they don't want to give the information away for free. We all know 10 years ago+ this forum was the top of the line for everyone to talk poker. Now, as time has gone on & the internet has evolved, most poker players who have the ability to (Mostly Top Players) are putting out Masterclasses & Courses for you to buy.

I'm not saying by any means that I fault them for doing this. As a society, money is the thing that seperates you from someone else. Money is the judge, as we often compare ourselves based on it. If you've gained years of experience and lessons on your own time and you now have the means to sell your course to teach other players your methods, that should be worth something, and hence, why it is no longer given away for free.

To be truthful, I kinda saw this one coming, when JustinTV was a thing (Now known as Twitch).

Like I always say, just my 2 cents
