Hi,

In a real world game, i have no problem working out everyones style, but in online poker i find it very hard to remember.

i've tried pkr.com with its 3d people (thinking maybe it would help with putting a name to a face) but even in that i can't remember much.

On my iphone i have a poker app (the one by apple i think) that lets you click on players and shows their stats (like, number of times folded, best hand, few other things). is there anything like this that is worth getting? I've seen some online poker hud software but a lot of the sites reviewing/having info on them seem to just be full of affiliate links, so im kinda skeptical in trusting them...

Thanks

I started actually with a small notebook. It very quickly got messy though. And very annoying when players leave/join the table

What sort of layout/info did you write down?

I was mostly using a tally system, tracking # of folds, # of folds preflop, raises/bets, how often they were still in after the river & (if they show their cards) how often they seem to bluff/use marginal cards...

re: poker tracker 3 / other software - do the poker sites 1) know if you are using them, and 2) care if you are using them?

There are programs like Holdem Manager and Pokertracker that will keep stats. But a more basic solution and question is, why arent you taking notes on players? Every site offers this feature and even if you have every tracking program in the world nothing works better than observing and keeping good notes on all your opponents. Plus its free.

Moved your thread to a more suitable forum IMO.

Yes, tracking software is fine on almost every site.

Mostly sites have a list specifying software that you are allowed to use. There are no issues with using such software from that perspective.
If you play for cash, then PokerTracker3 or Holdem Manager can be a good source of help. Also you can try Empirical poker calculator as it monitors and records the behavior of your opponents.

I don't use any program or notepad. Just trying to figure out their game at the table, as fast as I can. Anyone can change their ways, and I wanna know how they play today...not what they did over past 6 months.

the sooner you lose that attitude, the quicker you will become a winning player. Believe me, that is exactly how i used to think.

Why try to figure out their ways? Anyone can change, they may have changed the way they play over the past 2 hands so all attempts at trying to profile them are useless

??
6 months of data on a player is likely to give you way more insight into a player than simply looking at how they are playing right now. If I know someone has a strong history of folding to Cbets that's info I need to know at the start of the seesion, not at the end. Short term variance in those stats is usually just that, variance. People's game usually changes slowly.
